My younger son just came in, and was looking over my shoulder, asking, “What you looking at Dad?”
He read out, “Constant issue here in Milton Keynes”, and said “what is?”, I said “pi*ey travellers apparently.”
He, cruel little git that he is, said, “Travellers? In Milton Keynes?, that’s a bit of a come down, even for them.”

What a surprise 5 pages in and the right wing hate brigade are out in full force. Couldn't care less if these people have no where to live. They'd let them die on the streets without the NHS if it was up to them.

Whilst I agree to an extent about the traditional GD hate crowd I'm going to play devils advocate as the majority of travelers don't choose the life because they have nowhere to live, they choose the life for a range of cultural and historical reasons. There are a number of legal and fixed sites around the Country, a lot of travelers won't use them, or will use them sparingly as they see fixed sites as incompatible with their heritage as travelers.

Goes both ways - few years back they camped up in a car park near me - did they keep to one corner and keep to themselves? nope obstructing people coming and going, hassling/threatening people, stealing from a nearby business, etc.

Fortunately around here they seem to be able to move them on a bit more quickly than most places and do provide them with areas they can use - which they generally don't because the last lot trash the place, etc. (EDIT: Or as post above maybe doesn't fit with "heritage", etc. hence won't use them).

EDIT: They lost any sympathy from me though - a work colleague's sister runs a local scout group with a centre for disadvantaged children, etc. attached all clearly signed up as such - they moved into their carpark, trashed the playing area/field (leaving it full of broken glass and other hazardous items requiring 1000s to thoroughly clean up before the children could use it again) broke into the centre to use the toilets and get water, etc. stealing a lot of the equipment in the process... so **** em.

EDIT2: Googling it to try and find the news report came across this https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/huge-mess-travellers-left-behind-14988572 :s (different incident).

Yep those Range Rovers are hell to have a kip in.

An I missing something or don't they choose this lifestyle?

Erm... They CHOOSE their lifestyle.
And that lifestyle generally involves costing the tax payer a lot of money and causing them significant trouble should you be unlucky enough to have them arrive near you.

I saw these drive past me in Holywell last night, a huge convoy clogging up the road. Sad to say I judged them as "gypos" immediately and looks like was right.

Better still, I’ll pour petrol on them if they’re on fire.

No.

Bin them all. Every single one of them without exception, we've been robbed enough times, had turds left on our property, scrap cars left on our front drive, violent confrontations, they personally tried to rob me (twice) late at night. (that's just myself and my family, that's not counting our neighbours who had all of that, the farmers who had it, the businesses who got smashed up and wrecked, along with the greenbelt areas which were turned into pits in the ground full of turds and soiled nappies)

Take your misplaced bleeding heart elsewhere.

(you think I'm nasty, wait till 50x caravans/transits full of bare-chested, knuckle dragging, stinking, robbing, pooing ogres and their kids, park in a field/park near you, then start burning tyres, plastic and building site waste, whilst pooing all of the time......)

A Directed Acyclic Graph - basically a directed graph with no cycles - see the excellent book by Koller and Friedman for more details

I mean football groups get escorted on occasion and groups of them don't seem to faze the police, it's simply because its a protected group that's the issue. Ironically the police not acting will just end up increasing vigilantism in this regard, making the travelers even more rowdy than they tend to be. It's a farcical circle of mob rule.

Yep, equal and opposite reaction and all that.

I remember an incident when I was visiting a friend in a rural pub, a teenager walked in after some ****** beat him up in the street. So a few of the more dodgy locals mobbed up and went around to their camp with bats (and guns I hear). Didn't even call the police.

Honestly that ain't just travellers unfortunately - for instance local farmer has now blocked access to a spot they let used as a picnic spot due to with the recent weather people turning out in droves to use it and at the end of the day it is an utter mess of discarded plastic bags, disposable cups, nappies, etc. etc. utterly horrific.

You can't just let the public do things like that now and expect them to be responsible. People are getting more idiotic with each generation.

I suppose if they want to keep people off their land, they could just plant something poisonous like monkshood everywhere :D
