7.10 got.
Is there an easy way to get all the music and video codecs in terminal, rather than trying to open a file up and it saying "oh **** you don't have x, want to download it?"

Cheers :)

edit: found something, nevermind

Should I use the same apt: command to get DVD's and MP3's working as I did in 7.04 or is there a new one??

I don't know about doing with the terminal, the easiest way is with add/remove. They are all there as Gsteamer plugins.

Got to fix my install tonight when I get home. Grub picked up that XP is also installed on the machine - on a different drive to Gutsy, XP is on a Sata drive and Gutsy on an old IDE drive - but if I try to select XP in the boot loader it gives me the following error:

Error 23: Error while parsing number

Not sure yet what this error really means, nor how I'm going to fix it. I guess I could just run Fixmbr from the XP CD, but this will wipe out Grub so I'd rather not do that unless I have to.

Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions?

Yeah, it's already got that (my copy 'n' paste skills let me down before I edited the post).

Think I might just bite the bullet and run fixmbr and then re-install Gutsy. Really enjoying Gutsy though, my PC has never been this quick at doing stuff before :)

If it has fallen over there then it's crashed.. are you upgrading, if not I'd just recycle the power and start the install again..

no its a fresh install.

i've not used a *nix system for a few years and after Vista Ultimate failed a couple of times 7.1 hit - and i've switched!

So basically i just set the installer to format the partition i was trying to get vista on, and set that up to take 3 new partitions for Ubuntu...
just seen this was a known bug from the last release, so nice to see its been fixed!

anyway, i'll reboot and see where i stand with it all....

OK..ive got it and had a bit of a play about, and everything seems so much more polished and much easier than it used to be a year ago (since i last used Ubuntu) and i am really pleased that i got rid of my previous installation for this as i love gnome. just had a few bad experiences due to fedora core unfortunately. i definitely recommend this distro. 5 stars from me so far. although i haven't tried EVERYTHING, but its really easy to use and best of all, fast :D sorry if i babbled on, had a couple of drinks :)
