I hope they have a contingency plan - because war doesn't care about things "WHICH NEED TO HAPPEN NOW":

The biggest threat to global food supply isn't the loss of grain from Russia and Ukraine (India's bumper year more than covers for it) but the resulting rise in prices on commodity markets. The food is going to be there but traders have ramped up prices so high that people in poorer countries may struggle to pay for it.

Small problem with that - due to complications with various treaties and its desire to walk a tight rope with Russia - Turkey has closed the straits access to the Black Sea to all military traffic not just Russian - to allow coalition warships in they'd also have to let Russia reinforce its Black Sea fleet.

To all vessels not usually docked there. Russia isn't the only navy with ports in the Black Sea.

Sorry if this has been asked before but can't they just truck it out to another port?

Probably cost? You need about a thousand lorries to transport as much as a typical grain ship. Then they need to cart that grain some 300 miles (? - that's to Contessa in Romania, no idea if that's a viable location) and return. That's an awful lot of extra wages and hire costs, even if you can find the drivers and the journey is practical at all, to replace just one ship.

has anyone figured out why this war is happening after all? It doesnt make any sense whatsoever. The real reason behind it, honestly i have read so much and still cant figure out.
Simple, Putin wanted his and the USSR's glory days back, he wanted to rule over all the old territories.
If their army was competent they would be occupying more than just Ukrain right now.
Cam someone explain what this means ? :o
It means that they supply all the weapons they have have given them but after the war the weapons they still have are handed back. Like leasing a a car, you hand it back when finished the term.

Pretty ridiculous that Russia has lost in Ukraine more than most armies not in the top 20 for strength have for their entire armed forces and still not achieved much or overly dented their active capabilities (despite some claims) - albeit exposed their shortcomings in several areas including realistic state of their reserves, etc.

Have there been any other conspiracy theories yet such as this is a plan to reduce third world population by starving them, as the Chinese Virus was not as effective as expected? ;) I have heard some remarkable theories today from a man I thought very compos mentis until this afternoon!

Russia has lost more tanks in 2 months than the UK + France + Germany have in total.....

If Russia can keep in the game, food and resource issues will become more and more in favour of a negotiated settlement.

Which is bad news for everyone.
I'm not sure that it does get better for Russia as time goes on - had they turned off gas on day 1 that would have had an effect but that effect is now being weakened as Europe finds alternative supplies. Time just gives the world the chance to find alternatves.

I'm guessing here, but given the volumes we're talking, those convoys would be one big fat target.

From russia's point of view, food supply is a powerful bargaining tool.
I don't know, but I imagine that the grain is moved short distances by road, middle distance by rail freight to the port and then out to sea. Moving the rail freight section to a friendly country sounds plausable, but I have no idea if the infrastructure for grain processing is available at all ports.

Believe it or not, grain can be explosive so has to be handled and stored carefully.

Same for anything which produces dust like that.

There is a video somewhere of a place which had a leak from oxygen tanks + grain dust + someone lit a cigarette...
