I thought they were Russian? What was it, 93% of 80% of the population voted that they were in an entirely legitimate and not suspicious in any way hastily convened referendum. In any case, what do you expect Ukraine to do? Continue to supply an area controlled by a hostile force?

We also saw NATO intervention is Bosnia and Kosovo, but there was no intervention in Syria.

So did you just accept that the Crimean vote was legitimate by making such statement?

Otherwise, Ukraine is currently trying to kill its own people which have been occupied by the Russians?

We have to either, accept that Crimean vote was totally legitimate or start a war campaign against Ukraine, since we cant have a government trying to dehydrate its own people which have been occupied by a hostile force.

Bottom line is, Ukranian government is trying to kill its own people... Not Chemical Weapons but cutting a truly life or death resource aka water... A Human can not last longer than 3 days without water, therefore within 1-2 weeks whole population of Crimea which is higher than 1 million is at risk of dying out. We cant let that happen can we?

Even if you agree that Crimea is "Separatist" this action is completely illegal and completely un-European (which ukraine wants to part of) Can you imagine us cutting off literally all supplies with Scotland tomorrow because they want a vote on independence?? I am sure we`ll have a ban hammer crushing down on us from EU and USA.

Russia is so weak and incapable of anything, why havent we just invaded them?? I mean whats the risk?? Their nuclear weapons are all rusted to the core and will just explode in silos right? At best they`ll launch 1 rocket with fingers crossed which will be immediately shot down by superior western technology.

Must see report from ITV News on a pro-Ukrainian rally that turned violent when attacked by a pro-Russian mob in Dontesk. Hopefully busts a few myths that are knocking around such as eastern Ukraine being overwhelmingly in favour of being part of Russia, and the pro-Russian protestors being there to protect the people.

The east is about 80% Pro-Russian. Pro-Ukranian rallies are pretty much the courtesy of "Mobile-Maidan" there are people who are from Kiev or Western Ukraine who come in Cars and start causing trouble

AutoMaidan is purely Kiev/Western Ukraine, they are now actively driving around Eastern Ukraine causing provocations.

Could you explain 1 thing to me though? Why the protesters in Maidan were the "Freedom Fighters" and protesters in the Eastern Ukraine are suddenly terrorists and currently being shot at?

Err, It was illegal simply because 70% (I think) were needed for impeachment but only 67% were gathered. I am not entirely sure on % but there was 2-3% gap between legal and illegal.

This paradigm is based on nothing more than support for Yanukovych in the 2010 election and has been extrapolated into support for Russia today. However a lot has changed since then and I like to believe that people's attitudes are a bit more complex than "I'm ethnic Russian, I'll support whatever Russia says and does". The opinion polls I posted in this thread yesterday seems to indicate very little support in eastern Ukraine for Russia's actions and thoughts. Of course one opinion poll doesn't prove anything, which is why we need more of them. However it's rather difficult when the pro-Russian thugs are going around doing things like abducting OSCE officials.

Scorza you said yourself a page back, Pro-Russian doesnt exactly mean as "Pro-Putin" It is collection of viewpoints which agree that as things stand they cannot live together under the new "regime" Where vast majority of parliament is made of Nazi Ideology Svoboda Party.

Pro-Russian is simply Pro-Russian and NOT Pro-Putin... Actually most of these "separatist terrorists" would be more than happy with simple federalization, near to none want to join Russia, but they seek support from them.

Since all west does is label them separatists and terrorists who must be exterminated. Just wait few weeks, there will be Al-Queeda and Taliban supporting east Ukraine

I quite enjoyed reading this prospective on how events unfolded in Ukraine from a former Kremlin adviser. I'm not sure how much I agree with it but interesting nonetheless.



Governments only have interests and it's within our government's interest to be friendly with Saudi Arabia. They have oil and we have military hardware.

Well that is my point exactly.... Media is portraying us as the world Police, the whole Ukraine ordeal is blamed on Russia and we are portrayed as the good guys fighting for democracy in the world?

Was checking the news, the government started "Anti-Terrorist" campaign in the east Ukraine with use of gunships.... As reports suggest, they are pretty much shooting everyone who is armed.

Pro-Maidan users are saying that finally the "terrorists" are being shot and that the hostages who are apparently civilians in the city?? Will soon be liberated??? So by their point of view, whole East is invaded by terrorists and normal residents are held as hostages in the cities, awaiting liberation.... Impressive.

I think you guys dont understand that the sanctions on Russia are having completely opposite effect....

At this rate we will get another Iron Curtain, although this time the Russian people themselves would want it....

Russians are different, it seems that about 70% would be happy to give up on everything western just as long as Russia is seen as a world-super-power once again who does what it wants without caring.

Each sanction imposed by Obama is cheered by population, that incident with Visa and Mastercard caused many people to switch to those banks affected as in act of solidarity and now there are plans to create completely Russian payment system.

In the end, Visa took a massive share hit and now has to pay fines in Russia. Who is losing out in these sanctions? I am sure Putin would love to ask for more.

So the UN has stated that it was Pro-Russians fault that they got shot in Slavyansk and they deserved it because they were armed.... Hmm so how about us supporting and supplying Al-queeda extremists in Libya and Syria then? For what reason are the Pro-Russians considered terrorists by UN and Al-Queeda is considered freedom fighters in Libya and Syria???

Also, everyone kept saying that there is no reason for people to be armed as Ukranians are very nice and wont hurt no one.... 30+ dead in Odessa, far more than in whole millitary operation in Slovyansk....

I dont understand how anyone can claim that no one knows how the building was set on fire in Odessa, when there are videos and pictures of molotvs thrown at it...

There are rather horrible pictures released on twitter of burned alive men in the building, comments from Pro-Ukranians is the most shocking part.... They are cheering on and saying that dogs deserve dogs death...

In other news, Ukrainian parliament has removed the communist party from the building, since they were "Separatist".... Hmmm, there was this one guy who also removed communist party and all others too, i think he ended up shooting himself in the bunker??

At my suggestion of Parliament voted to remove from the floor of the Communist faction. The historic event. I hope that very soon we will ban this treacherous party
