**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I'm thinking about sticking some Rainsport 3s on my GT86. The crappy Prius eco tyres are quite funny for 25mph sliding, but not so funny at 70mph in a sudden heavy downpour :D

Some people say they are a bit soft, but how are they compared to e.g. PS3/4s for feel?

Garbage. Michelin Pilot sport are are the top of the pile when it comes to steering response, only trackday type tyres can beat it really. Rainsport are down there at the bottom, I wouldn't want them on a car that's about handling.

If Rainsports were as good as people say for the price they are, don't you think car manufacturers would be lapping them up for a huge cost saving as OEM fitment?

As they are still not (or not as far as I know), then that suggests they are more of a compromise than manufacturers are willing to take.

The price of tyres is only going one way and it isn't down, especially Michelin's which are imported from Europe.

They do go up and down with the time of year though. Winter tyres are a lot cheaper in summer for example :D

Yes but quite a few manufacturers stick Pirelli P-zeros on their cars (including Porsche), which are super terrible yet more expensive :/

Agreed

Even if it was, I still wouldn't pay £30 a corner more for a PS4 over a CSC6.

Speaking of which, Camskill seem to be doing CSC6 for a decent price these days - £596 delivered vs £716 from BlackCircles for my sizes

Cheapest I can seem to get PS4S is £764 + delivery.

The CSC6s seem a bit of bargain.

Guys what tyre(s) should I look at for my honda accord estate? Size 225/45 Y17. None of the tyres which are mentioned in the last few pages of this thread seem to be available when I type my details into kwik fit.

I've looked on camskill too but not seeing the tyres mentioned in this thread ie continental sport contacts.

I really don't want to pay more than £80 per corner fitted. Is that realistic for something half decent?

My main dislike with the current tyres on the car is the fronts sidewalls look flat (saggy) but the pressures are fine. I don't like this.

Michelin PS4 is available in that size, personally I would get those. Excellent performance and unrivalled longevity in this category, a touch over your budget but worth it.

I'm in need of two new tyres on a VW Passat with 235/45/18.

Continental SC5s are currently fitted all round but the front have just hit the 3mm wear indicators after 12k miles.

Have narrowed the choice down and can get Goodyear F1 AY3s fitted for £138/corner, Michelin PS3 for £137 or Michelin Primacy 3 for £125.

The car is for everyday commuting and i'm mainly interested in longevity / noise levels as I do quite high mileage and was surprised at how soon the continentals need changing (although £9k of the mileage was from the previous owner). I would appreciate any insight on whether the F1s or PS3s would be worth the extra or an unnecessary cost?

Also as the rear tyres still have a healthy amount of tread left is it worth going to the effort of switching them to the front and putting the new tires on the rear? I can see general guidance that this is best practice but would mean an extra trip to a garage assuming that blackcircles fitters etc wouldn't do it for free if bought online.

You can discount the PS3 as it's a vastly inferior tyre to the F1A3. The Primacy is worse still than the PS3, so personally I'd opt for the F1A3's.

The last time I used blackcircles they rotated the tyres from front to back for free for me as I'd asked in advance. This was a small garage in the middle of nowhere though, for a larger garage they might charge you for it.
