urgent help on 1st build!

hmm...the study computer is a dell vostro 200. I'm pretty sure it has a speaker, because I remember hearing it, and people on various forums I found from google have had issues with it...strangely, the user manual doesn't show me where on the mobo it is, unless im missing it?

Judging by a picture I found on the net, the speaker seems to be built into the motherboard :(

That's no use, unfortunately.

right, now that for the speaker issue, worst has come to worst, i'll have a go with the computer im currently using.

it's a dell dimension 9150, and if it doesn't have a detachable speaker, dell would be wise to find a remote hole and hide there for a while.

lol =)

A few years back I bought a bunch of bits from OCUK and hooked it all together, but it didn't work. Unfortunately, I was no longer at school so just dumped it all on a shelf and left it alone as I didn't have time to deal with it. 3-4 months later, I sent an email to OCUK and they said did you try this, this and that?

Turned out, i'd missed the first "this" and it all worked perfectly. I felt like such a champion turnip!

Moral of this story is the guys at OCUK know what they are talking about, and they have *really* good Customer Service. If it's still not working on Monday give them a bell and i'll bet they sort you out.

thanks mate, I will definately be giving them a ring on monday, either for help, or to RMA a certain component.

what works for me is a hot shower, a cup of tea, and relaxing in bed with a good book.

(speaking of books, "To kill a mockingbird" is fantastic!)

now, back to the dimension lol.

Does the other computers have ddr2 memory? If yes, I would try a stick from one of them. It does sound like memory.

all three computers are ddr2, about an hour ago I tried putting a stick from my xps into the ud3r, but the notch wouldn't line up, so I assumed ddr2 doesn't fit into a ddr3 motherboard.

EDIT: Beaten to it =)

hmm...just had a thought.

when I ordered my rig, I ordered a TRUE and a scythe fan for it, which didn't come today because they were out of stock.

the invoice said that the scythe fan would be sent to follow, but no mention of the TRUE.

also, I bought it for £45, but today it's only £30 lol, will need to sort this out after my rig is fixed up.

how long would it be then for the TRUE to come back into stock...if it's ages, I could always cancel it and get a proliminatech megahalem or a noctua

Cancel and get the Magahalems IMHO. I know i'm biased, but its a really good cooler, and for only £45 its great- I paid over £60. If the scythe fan has not been dispatched, you may want to switch it for this noctua - a really super fan.

lol, thanks mate, I probably will end up doing that, but only after I get my rig sorted, running smoothly, and taken about a billion pictures of it from every angle lol.

Tomorrow what should I do, seeing as OcUK aren't open? carry on playing around with it? or just leave it and chill doing something else lol.

I too look forward to your system working and the flood of photos :D

As for tommorrow, I don't think there is much left to try. May as well just seal it up and enjoy the 20 degree + weather. I plan to rebuilt my i7 rig tommorro (not broken just moving to this case) so if I come accross a new idea i'll be sure to post.

nice! have fun with that then, and thanks for the awesome help throughout today, thank you mattus as well when you read this, and everyone else that posted =)

i'm now off to bed, so g'night all!
