Vega 56 worth it at around £200?

RX5700 is 10% faster than a RTX2060 for £50 to £80 more. Vega56 is 10% faster than a GTX1660TI,so what price is the RX5600XT going to be?? £300?? Vega 56 performance or a bit better?? An RTX2060 is 10% faster than a GTX1660TI:
https://tpucdn.com/review/zotac-geforce-gtx-1660-ti/images/relative-performance_2560-1440.png

A GTX1660TI is already £250.
*If* such a thing exists, then yeah, 5600XT will be £300, and will be no doubt 1660Ti + 8% or so. I have no doubt of this at all. That would make it something like an RX580 + 40%.

AMD is premium brand, y'all.

It won't be as good as a Vega 56 (=RX580+60%). That's too good for us in AMD's brave new world (which, to be fair, is the same brown, ****y world that nVidia want to sell us).

I'd place my other bet on the 5600 (non-XT) being £240 and being RX 590 + 10%. Essentially little/no movement in that price bracket. Because there's no room without crashing into the XT.

Any of the Vega Cards or even a 1660Ti would be a substantial upgrade over what you have now for your under £300 budget. And as well as that, it would get the "worst card you have ever owned" off your hands.

You have let several amazing deals pass by because of your persistence in waiting for something better to come along. And it looks like there won't be anything on the horizon for the foreseeable future. So don't let another deal go by.
I said I'd pick up a Vega 56 Pulse at £250. And I hope to do just that.

The 1660 Ti isn't a big enough upgrade for £250. It's basically +30%.

P.S. I don't suffer from "FOMO". At all. Ever. I do let many "deals" pass me by and don't lose sleep over it.

I'm either prepared to pay the asking price or I'm not. I won't be "bid up", or convinced by good salesmen. I'm just too stubborn ;)

e: Also the 1660 Ti at +30% is also 20% more expensive than I paid for the 480.

Or 47% more expxensive than a 580 sells for today.

So +30% perf at +47% cost... hmm... doesn't strike me as a "deal".

Honestly I would just buy whatever is the best price/performance whether its AMD or Nvidia, as they both want to do what Samsung and Apple have done to the smartphone market.

Edit!!

Is your RX480 4GB one of the very early cards with a blower cooler?? If so some could be unlocked to RX480 8GB cards.

No it's the Sapphire Nitro 480 and is well known to have a terrible cooler. Their 580 cooler was miles better, apparently.

You know what wouldn't surprise me. If nV and AMD are conspiring to trickle out upgrades as slowly as possible.

Because as we approach the limits of materials they're going to struggle to keep increasing performance.

So they might both have agreed to keep increments to 10% or the like, in order to have enough room for another 5 or 6 series before they basically hit a wall.

My mate had the 8GB one,but managed to sell it during the mining craze for a tidy sum, then bought a faster card LOL.

I feel Navi should be a good hint that people shouldn't bother waiting months and months for the next AMD GPU.

Someone who bought a RTX2070 9 months ago for £450,now gets a slightly faster one for nearly the same price. Well worth the wait!! :p

The same can be said for just about all gpu's now. I got my Vega 64 with 3 games for £450 before the 2070 release. Had i waited a few months it would have been £400 with the same 3 games. The gtx1080 had good deals as well around the same time. Anyone wanting a fast card atm should be jumping all over Vega 56 before stock's run out. All we seem to wait for atm is a slight performance bump with a similar price bump. EOL cards are where the real price/performance cards are.

I remember getting myself a 290 pcs+ for £200 with 3 free games nearing the end of it's life cycle and with a few tweaks it wouldn't be that far off current £200 cards 4 years later.

You will never upgrade if you keep thinking like that. Those days are gone. 1070s were on sale for less than £300 and you passed them up.

Also, you hate the card you have, you moan about it all the time and complain that you can't even play 1080p games and the cooler is crap. Putting up with that just to save a few quid seems beyond ridiculous.

So you are basically accepting of the fact that vfm is getting worse now each gen.

And your advice is that we should all accept this as the new reality and get our wallets out?

Meh, I'll pass.

Its all quite sad. It makes me wonder with the new consoles next year,Stadia, etc whether they realise things are going to hot up now.

In the end for me if these companies force me to spend more than I usually do,I will just keep the hardware for longer.

Sapphire 480 4GB.

It's one of the worst cards I've ever owned.

1. The 4gb was a mistake.
2. The cooler on this is one of the worst Sapphire ever made. It's every bit as bad as the XBOX 360 I got rid of years ago.
3. It struggles to do 60fps/1080p. Probably lack of VRAM.

On what games on what CPU? I can't imagine you're running out of VRAM at 1080p

2500k. What games? Everything. Well, except Terraria ;)

It's a crap card. I need to get rid.

Also @melmac I didn't see the £300 1070s. Although that's similarly out of my budget as the £270 Vega 56, lol.

So even if I'd seen it you're right I would have passed it up.

Just want the V56 Pulse at £250. It's been £250 before. It's not like I'm wanting it to be £100.

But yeah, chances are I'll wait and it'll be gone and then I'm waiting to 2020 for a decent upgrade at £250.

LOL That's not what I said at all.

But, I know you won't upgrade. The 480 gives you something to moan about. And that's all you really like to do. :p

EDIT: Apologies, I wrote that post when rushing off and forgot to put the smiley face in.

Same here £250 my max on the sapphire vega 56.

I was reading that the vega cards support all 4k video including VP9 but the xr cards do not like the rx 570,580,590 ? also herd amd cards do not support Netflix HDR is this true ?

thanks

Unbeatable value!

Yea i want a faster card for 4k but will make do with Vega 64 until i see something at a reasonable price that gives me a nice boost.

A year+ wait over £20, just bite the bullet, order and forget about it @FoxEye :)
I physically can't. Literally.

I can't.

It has to be £250. Call it a mental illness if you like. I have a budget and I literally, physically can't exceed it.

I think it might be a bit extreme at times but that's just how I'm wired.

And actually it gets worse as I get older :p If something doesn't meet my expectations of value I simply can't buy it. Even if everyone else tells me I'm mental.

the thing is with me I am upgrading everything so lets say you save £20 on everything like motherboard, ram, psu, case, cpu and gfx card that is £120 saved and that's a lot to me as people are just looking at the £20 i am not i am looking at the total price but what gets me overclockers have had this card at £250 just a month ago and I don't want to pay more than what it was a month ago simple as that.

I game at 1440p and honestly looking at the way graphics cards are going I think I might just drop down to 1080p once the graphics card I have starts struggling. It will prepare me for when raytracing becomes an option I can't turn off! :P
