Vega 56 worth it at around £200?

Unless the new consoles are going to be £700

They dont need to be £700. Sony and Microsoft can afford to sell consoles at cost price or even at a loss. They'll make it all back on game sales, that's where the real money is.

AMD and Nvidia have to make their money from the hardware so gaming pcs are more expensive.

That's only counting AMD cards though. The 1660 Ti murders all of those cards and can be had for £250, which is where the 590 launched just a few months ago. It's generally a bit faster than the 1070 too, which is a card that was still well over £300 this time last year. For all the (deserved) hatred Nvidia get higher up the product stack, the 1660 Ti finally relegated all those cards with roughly the performance of a 290X down to the budget tier where they belong.

Dude this card was released in February 2019... /case

Do agree with the 590 point though.

Release date is mostly irrelevant unless you take in to account the price point.

So you would buy a card with knowledge that its based on technology that could be from an older generation, i.e. a pascal/polaris card refresh that has no new features because 'release date is irrelevant'. I would expect and want anything released this year to beat something that was released 3, 6 years ago for the same price point.

Well isn't that the point of the 1660Ti? It exceeds the 1070 (let's say mid range) from pascal and also exceeds the 980ti from maxwell (top end), for what can be considered entry level price. I would say this is a great update for all those people still run things like a 7950 (or possibly those than went to a 1060) but cant justify/afford the price of an upgrade as they mostly still game at 1080p. The 1660Ti is also a legitimate entry level VR card

You do indeed - and AMD's £250 product was the RX 590, which was a pointless, slow GPU for too much money. At least the price cuts came quickly once it became clear what a waste of time it was, and it makes more sense if well under £200. But Nvidia didn't release the 1660 Ti to compete with clearance sales of Vega 56 (I'm not sure they'd even begun at the time), because that's a problem that solves itself within months when stock is exhausted. Equally, Vega 56 isn't AMD's answer to any of Nvidia's current products. It's officially an end of life product with dwindling stock. And I'd be amazed if AMD or their partners are making much of anything out of selling Vega cards for current prices, given the expense of HBM2 and the high end PCBs and coolers required to house such a thirsty GPU. Nvidia sure aren't worried about Vega (and never were).
But what are AMD going to release to fill the gap between the RX 590 and the 5700? The chances are that there will be a near £200 difference in price between the 2

If they release anything it will match a 1660 Ti for exactly the same price. Give or take 5%.

That seems to be the trend.

So what's that? Something like a 590 + 20%. Whoop de whoop.

Hang on. Overclockers have upped the price of this card twice today and now it’s £289.99

They joking. Why is this it’s an old card the new ones are out soon why has the card went even more expensive.

I think I remember why I did not bother gaming on a pc now. So much for a price reduction.

Joke. Really

Supply and demand innit?

Because they were on offer, the offer finished. There isn't more on stock so they can increase price and still sell them off. New cards are priced higher so old cards still sell.

If it still had two games bundled with it then it would be tempting, without the games it needs to be at the £200 mark.
The games were only worth £25 in terms of resale (for both not each).

2nd hand Vegas are about £200. It is what it is. The 5700 will be £350 for similar perf.

I think £200 new is just not going to happen for a non-ref/non-blower card.

You're probably right but that's all an EOL card of that spec is worth to me without the bundled games.
