Vega 56 worth it at around £200?

The thing is, if a PS5 is going to hit Vega 64 levels with Ray Tracing as is rumoured then they surely have to be offering a card of this level for £250 next year.

You would think so,but with AMD and Nvidia poking each other lightly now,I think they don't care anymore, and are relying on people being anti-console or being locked into PC gaming too tightly.

I physically can't. Literally.

I can't.

It has to be £250. Call it a mental illness if you like. I have a budget and I literally, physically can't exceed it.

I think it might be a bit extreme at times but that's just how I'm wired.

And actually it gets worse as I get older :p If something doesn't meet my expectations of value I simply can't buy it. Even if everyone else tells me I'm mental.

**** the lot of them, if it bothers them that much, they can buy anything over £250 n post you it!:p

In your dreams, the monopoly don't have to do anything, they can price X and Y and people will defend them to the hilt and tell Foxeye he's just an idiot for not budging:p

Unless the new consoles are going to be £700.

I do kind of wonder if this gen might see similar price increases for console hardware.

You just know that MS, Sony and AMD would love to put prices up like that.

How about it does drop to £250 but no more free games? The games make it a bargain as easy to sell.
No that wouldn't do either.

I can afford it at £250 with the free games. That is the deal being offered a couple months ago.

And yes, I would sell the games so I could claw back £20-£30 or so.

And sell the 480 to claw back another £60 or so. I don't think I'll get any more than that for it.

Doing all of that I can just about afford it.

Get one thing straight right now, the new consoles will not hit Vega 64 level with raytracing.
They may just about reach Vega 64 levels of performance. Also they may have raytracing, but certainly not at the same time. It is not going to happen.

Unless of course you mean Vega 64 levels of ray tracing in which case, then they will both be rubbish at it.;)

2500k. What games? Everything. Well, except Terraria ;)

It's a crap card. I need to get rid.

Also @melmac I didn't see the £300 1070s. Although that's similarly out of my budget as the £270 Vega 56, lol.

So even if I'd seen it you're right I would have passed it up.

Just want the V56 Pulse at £250. It's been £250 before. It's not like I'm wanting it to be £100.

But yeah, chances are I'll wait and it'll be gone and then I'm waiting to 2020 for a decent upgrade at £250.

Well fair enough, I guess you need more grunt for the games your playing. I like my RX 570 but I kind of back off on some games. You can always fiddle about with settings to get 60 fps without too much loss of quality. I think it hurts the ego more than it hurts the eye

Unbeatable value!

Aside from the bottom 2 those are games favouring AMD hardware. I mean V56 is faster but not 22% across an array of games

Yea I kind of meant Vega 64 raw with RTC enabled, so pretty much 2070 level product

No worries just thought it was worth mentioning in case anyone was thinking the games might swing it for them. Maybe without the games there will be more room for some additional price drops...
Just looked on the MM and the game bundle is only going for £20, and can only be sold to Vega or 500 series users.

So if that's the reason it wasn't discounted to £250 (a bit cynical) then it's not a good reason to buy at the higher price. Still going to pass at the current price.

That was before we knew the Navi pricing tho.

Understandable if people passed up on them then.

Now we know Navi is a bust (purely because of pricing) it's easy with 20/20 hindsight to ask why we didn't buy the Vega then...

e: Had a nice email from someone and I just want to put it on record - I'm not broke and could afford a nice GPU if I could force myself to spend the money.

I just can't bring myself to part with the cash is all. The budget thing is purely self-imposed.

Sometimes I'm far too tight for my own good and yes, that isn't an endearing quality to most people! It's something of a mental problem, I confess.

So (you know who are!) thanks again, and it was touching offer.

You'd be wrong about the mid range.

We've had the same price/perf since 2013 ish. R290 -> R390 -> 480 -> 580 -> 590.

All these cards have been £250 ish for years. Only the R290 launched a lot higher than that. But eventually settled at this price.

Since the asking price and the perf for all these cards has been the same since 2013, how is the mid-range healthy or progressing at all?

Well, it isn't.

Exactly. I had a 7990 on a great deal in 2012 with a free PSU, I paid £300 all in.

It eventually had to be RMA'd and because it was EOL the etailer replaced it with a 290x which I didnt mind. If you compare the 290x with a 1060 it matches or even beats it in some games. Thats a 2013 card for same price bracket with a 2016+ card showing that it has not progressed bar some energy efficiency gains. Not matter which camp you sway to, its poor. Really poor. People shouldn't be happy to part with this cash.
