You're on ADSL though. Cable doesn't work that way. Neither does VDSL.

You have ADSL - it doesn't work like that with cable, there are no distance limitations.

Called NTL last night and they gave me some details to put in proxy setting area, this seems to have fixed me issue of only getting 1meg for the whole of this week?

For the people with slow connections - are you using routers? If so, it's worth checking if they can actually route data fast enough. My 10mbit connection was being completely choked by a 6 year old router.

Connect the PC directly to the CM and whooooooooooosh.

It's a problem that I'd imagine will become more prevalent with 20mbit.

Good point...I had a 3 yr old Linksys BEFSR11 router and could only get speeds of 6mb through it. Plugged the cable modem straight into the pc and 10mb straight away.

Indeed

My router WRT54GSv4 is around 2 years old and I keep the firmware up to date, I did take that out of the loop straight away and my NEt was still 1meg ...

Very good point though, I may update my router when the 20meg rolls out!

Happy with my connection (still paying £17.99 a month for 10mb for some reason!) but the only thing that worries me is my wireless network, by doing quick speedtest...

...my wireless utility shows that at the time of the test around 55% of my wireless 'bandwidth' was being used, so I fear I may not be able to take full advantage of 20mb. Nothing I can do about it either I imagine unless I swap to wired.
