VX220 or S2000 - in 18 months time :p

Not really the best video to counteract my comment is it! The Elise (not sure what model, can't see the exhaust clearly, looks like a 111R?) is clearly much faster than the Integra and is being held up by the S1 Exige...considering the VX Turbo is faster than a 111R, I'd say it wouldn't even be a close battle

You can’t judge anything really from a video especially with these kind of cars it all comes down to driver skill. I remember i did Bedford and ended up doing a good 6 or 7 laps behind an Exige S and to be honest although i never overtook him he was keeping me from making any further progress.

I very much doubt my VX220 turbo even with different suspension / Geo would be able to keep up with an Exige S if the drivers were matched

In that video of the three cars, Elise, Exige and Integra, it's the Integra that closes up on the Elise - any closer it would hit it. I would say the Integra is the car being held up. I don't once see the Elise driver trying to get past the Exige driver.

Video a side all you have todo is go to track days and time cars. At Oulton Park the Integra's are typically a couple of seconds quicker then the Elise S1's.

I have also on my computer a in-car video of a Vauxhall Cavalier (yes a Cavalier) chasing down an Elise S1 on a cold / greesy / damp november morning at Oulton Park, the Elise spins in the end, they are not good in winter conditions.

its always so much easier to follow someone than to lead ;)

you could pull out any number of videos depicting whatever you like, its barely relevant unless you have the same driver in different cars otherwise its like comparing chalk and cheese

Armchair expert much?

Of course a Chavalier is going to be easy to drive in winter conditions. It's a 2 ton barge, front wheel drive and will just understeer whenever conditions get tough.

Anyway, for ****'n'giggles, post up the vid. It'll probably be quite funny watching some noob in his Elise spin :D

Well I came on here describing my experience of the VX220 I passenger rided in.

I know about the 2.2 engine because I use to own an Astra Coupe.

I drive an Integra Type R

I have driven an Exige, passenger rided with instructures at Silverstone in an Exige - very fast car.

Driven Oultonpark, driven Silverstone in my own car.

Anyhow you asked for this..

The same car is also here, a lot faster as it's dry 3 Cavaliers and a Honda S2000.

You didnt answer my question about how you judge handling from the passengre seat?

Well when you feel the car skipping over bumps, and I glance at speedo and the speeds are relative low in corners it's not a good sign.

Handling and grip are two seperate things however, and agree you need to drive to get the full picture.

I did say from the beginning the car was on spax coilovers, and the owner had them set full soft all round, by his own admission car was to stiff. He did say it was a lot better on track, and that I have no doute.

Maybe it's me, but in that s2000 v chavalier video if that was me in the s2k I'd be having kittens that you were wooshing off down the straights and holding me up through corners. My take of course.

Unfortunately the s2k just lacks the brute force that you sometimes need on the starights against cars with similar/greater straight line speed. I regularly encounter 'i'm faster than you though !!!!1111' morons on the track. For some reason two morons at Bedford last time decided that they would let the 911 I was chasing through, but hold me up for a lap. The solution is you either wait for them to ignore half a lap of blue flags, or back off and then at a section your much faster for go for it, using your higher corner exit speed to get past. At bedfrd last time I had this with a z4 and a Saab turbo estate. The z4 wouldn't back off on the straights even though I was much faster through corners. In the end I had to wait till I got to the main straight and slowly creep past. The Saab was hillarious. To 'stay ahead innit' he cut corners off and was all over the track so it just wasn't safe to get close. In the end he noticed the blue flags and moved over.

All the armchair warriors have a chance to step up now anyway. Bedford gt, 21st November, full day open pit for 145 quid. I'll happily take people out in the s2k to show them how it copes.

Clearly those 'giving it large innit' will have an aunts brothers cousins dogs best freinds nail varnishing day.

To put things into context matt is taking his Clio along and I fully expect to be shown a clean set f heels, regardless f the banter we have had over the last few months.

Will, if you get a chance to come along I'd love a go against a driver I know will be going 10/10ths in their 911. Would be fantastic for giggles :-)

anyway, apologies to the thread starter about going off topic. If your in the Bedford area your welcome to a passenger lap in a potential future car. I can't promise the earth with my level of driving skill but I'll be doing a few tuition sessions to tidy up my lines and speed round Bedford so I shouldn't be too far off the pace.

I just can't believe any FF car with a similar power output to an Elise or VX will be faster around a track. As good as Integra's are, if you stick a good driver in, the prior will be much faster.

I miss track days :( Ascari is so bloomin expensive over here it's like a birthday and christmas treat to myself!

This is a very good point. As you say RWD cars with similar power to weight will be quicker then the Integra, Elise and S2000 included here.

FWD is a lot less forgiving for most drivers, where the Integra is relative safe car to explore limits in.

The problem is most drivers don't have the skills to push RWD to the limits.

I was driving in Wales last winter, I was late for go-karting, just off A5 near EVO triangle. Cold with a film of greese on road. I had to make time up in the Integra, but there was no way I could have driven an S2000 at that speed, because I don't have the driving ability, however the Integra allowed me those speeds because it's a forgiving car.

Why?

Wince when was it that the wheels which are driven are the defining thing about handling?

He's not talking about handling surely he's talking about how quick it is around a track. Surely its perfectly possible for a car with poor handling to be quicker around a track than another car with fantastic handling?

I would say suspension is just as important.

Regardless though the ITR is a bit different to most FF cars, although the R26R is also a bit special.

EVO magazine has an article on the greatest drivers cars this month:

ITR at 22nd, Elise S1 1.8 at 19th, Exige mk1 at 36th. The VX220 is down at 87th, S2000s dont even come in the top 100.

In the Top ten though they do have 2 FF cars. THe R26R(5th) and Clio Trophy(7th).
