Watch Dogs - Ubisoft's Third Person Shooter

I get terrible stutter whilst driving. *Maybe* Im runing out of vram?

I used the optimised Nvidia settings from the Nvidia website. Recommend bascially all as maxed as it goes, with high textures and temporall SMAA.

Awful!

Was getting texture corruption and someone said try reduceing AA to SMAA which is what I'll try next. But maybe the stutter is just running out of vram?

Tempted just to put the game on auto settings.... but then the whole point of me getting it, was to see what all the fuss was about with the graphics.

The game is in a terrible state. And probably could have done with another 6 months in development!

Its a shoddy port by ubi. If they intentionally did it or not. It runs perfect on PS4 and looks the same as PC without the E3 patch.

I see no reason current PC tech should not run it well. It ran crap with my 4gb 290 as well..

Can you write a dummies guide how to get that tweak working? I think i did it but it made no difference at all and i want to check I have done it right

Downgrading the AA to SMAA or FXAA has sorted my texture corruption.

What can I do about the horrendous stutter the game has?

*Think I might wait forthe next set of Nvidia drivers before I give this another shot.

Does changing 'max buffered frames' help with stuttering? I've left it on the default of 3...

Game runs fine for me on 7970.

Same here.

There were no issues other than general FPS anyway but I moved down from 4 x msaa to 2 x msaa and shadows to medium to sort that.

I also changed maxed buffered frames down to 1 at the same time so not sure which had the largest effect.

Certainly nothing wrong so far that isn't down to hardware but then I did just install it this evening and I've only played 3 hours worth. Mainly driving around the city.

A lot of people are sayig that driving is choppy but I'm fine with the latest official AMD drivers

My old 920 is at 3.6 btw and 7970 @ 1050/1350

I am really surprised people are having performance issues. Normally I am really sensitive to stuttering. I would suggest turning off AA, and playing with an xbox 360 controller. I am convinced its the controller that's smoothing out the gameplay for me. Give it a try.

I had to use 2x MSAA before getting any decent performance, not that I have great hardware to begin with though should be able to cope with the game. The stuttering became unbearable towards the end of the main story:

(Act 5 spoiler)

During the mission to plant the virus into three CTOS towers and all the police coming after you. I made the mistake of not resupplying devices to help me evade them so had loads after me. The stuttering made the mission unplayable and I eventually gave up until the next couple of patches will hopefully sort out the problems.

More noticeable when driving at high speed there were minor pauses about half a second or less, though very annoying when trying to drift around corners or evading police.

For the game itself I enjoyed the side missions a lot more than the main story so far. I felt like it was just grinding out to the end with characters I didn't care about when various things happened to them.

I have just been playing this on PS4 and tbh it looks every bit as good as the PC without the unofficial mod. It also runs perfectly smooth.

Just like Assassins creed Black flag did the same.

Ubi are really trying hard to keep the games equal or nerfing pc releases to promote consoles as there is no way this game should be a challenge on a current decent spec Pc.

at 900p 30fps and high settings even my toaster could run it smooth

Is it possible that the reason why the game runs like a donkey on my system is becuase I only* have a 3570k cpu?

I have a 4770k and it runs like a Donkey. It's a crap port by UBi just like AC4 was and I imagine just like every other game they release will be, If you go by the latest adverts for the consoles matching the PC in graphics.

I have an external LCD panel that sits under my monitor, when playing Watchdogs I've yet to see it max my 7950 GPU or my CPU. It uses a fair bit of memory but doesn't seem to really push the PC to it's limits.

It's like GTA IV all over again, which had massive issues for loads of people yet ran perfectly well for many others, some of which were using systems of a much lower spec compared to those who were having problems with it. Strange!

Watch Dogs runs really well for me and I'm only using an o/c'd i7 920, 7850 2Gb GPU and 16Gb DDR3. The overall variation in how this game runs on different systems is very common and rather perplexing.

Yeah, there seem to be people with far more powerful systems than me (i5-2500/16GB RAM/750ti) having loads of performance issues, and yet I'm running fine at all 1080p with all high settings :(

Agreed, 50-70 FPS here maxed out on temp SSMA @ 1080p. Game looks & runs beautiful, get mild stutter every now & then when driving but not enough to throw me off or make me crash. Can't work out whether the game is actually unplayable for some or just being a bunch of moaners

It's unplayable for me, the stutters are more like pauses for half a second, but happen when you start driving around, it's a lot better when I disable SLI but I shouldn't have to do that, also at my res I'd have to lower the visuals to maintain a decent framerate.

Really??. There are enough people complaining about the performance all over the net to know it isnt just a bunch of moaners having a moan.

And yes, i'd expect a decent framerate at 1080p if i was using a 400 quid GPU as well.

in all honesty performance isnt bad for me, except the odd time it grinds to a halt when the gpu mem usage hits 3gb (at 1080p...... poor) but one thing i have noticed is that people with single 79xx's seem to be doing ok. not 60fps average but fairly consistent performance, totally playable. 290/290x, 780ti etc and it seems to be all over the place. sli/crossfire is just not working for most people. It's shoddy, basically. Every can(should) see that.

Indeed the problem for me at least isn't performance but stability - every game I play runs lovely on my rig, but Wash_Dogs freezes the whole system (requires hard reset) after 3-15 minutes. A fair amount of people online having the same issue with no fix in sight, as such it's literally unplayable for me. Unfortunately, as it's a good game!
