Watch Dogs - Ubisoft's Third Person Shooter

Given up trying to get the game to work at high settings. (670's and a 3570k)

Game plays ok generally, but then terrible stutter during heavy action. Especially gun fights.

Changed to auto detected settings and at least the game is playable now.

Terrible terrible mess of a game.

670s? So SLI? Have you tried disabling it?

I think the problem with this game is that the hardware requirements don't always match the visuals that are delivered, so people expect to be able to run it on higher settings than they actually can (definitely isn't hugely optimised either).

Now that I have disabled crossfire, I get between 45-70fps with high textures and ultra settings on one core of my 7990 (using the latest patch). Ultra textures are a mess, but then Ubisoft have said they will continue to work on those to remove the stutter.

I am really enjoying the game - sure the story isn't mind blowing, but I love the idea and think the design of the city is fantastic. Have had some great multiplayer sessions too (especially the invasions!).

All in all, enjoying it much more than I expected to.

No I havent tried disabling. Guess there is no harm in trying.

As someone who has never had SLi / Crossfire I was just wondering when people say "try with it disabled" how much of a pain is that to do? A quick click of a single button in Nvidia control panel (or CCC)? Or is it more awkward than that?

CrossfireX (when on a single board e.g.my 7990) requires you to make a game profile with it disabled. Very easy to do in CCC. Not sure about Nvidia.

Depends on your motherboard and the age of your graphics card. It can range from needing to literally unplug your card or disable a PCI slot by a little hardware switch, to being able to disable via software.

As far as I know it's a single button click to turn it off. However I think it does it gloabally, rather than per game. But I could be wrong.

Is it possible that the stuttery mess this game is is down to my 3570k?

I mean what settings do you think I should try with 2Gb 670's in sli and a stock 3570k ?

I tried the Nvidia suggested settings but they are sky high.

Everything ultra, textures high and Temporal SMAA 1200p (Even taking AA down to FXAA doesnt change anything)

Stuttery whilst general gameplay, slide show during big gun fights. :(

AA doesn't make much of a difference. Temporal SMAA should be fine.

Stutter with high textures has been fixed now, so if you are still getting it then your settings are set too high.

I found this to be quite helpful - http://hothardware.com/News/Optimization-Tips-And-Tricks-For-Watch-Dogs/#!bxSLrs

Especially:
1GB of Video Memory
1366x768 Resolution
Medium Textures
Low Detail Settings
FXAA

1-2GB of Video Memory
1920x1080 Resolution
Medium Textures
Medium Detail Settings
FXAA

2GB of Video Memory
1920x1080 Resolution
High Textures
Medium Detail Settings
Temporal SMAA

3GB of Video Memory
1920x1080 Resolution
High Textures
High Detail settings
2x TXAA / 4x MSAA (May require step-down to Medium Detail settings).

My 7990 has 3GB of memory per core, but I have managed to squeeze high textures and ultra quality out of it, but have left AA to temporal SMAA. Just have a play around with the settings, but they are probably too high.
