Watch Dogs - Ubisoft's Third Person Shooter

seems that ultra textures requires a lot of gpu grunt not just vram. going from ultra textures to high textures made me go from 30 fps with dips into the 20s to 50 fps with dips into the 40s! - evan though i have 4gb of vram on my 290 and wasnt running out.

Stuttering/seems like loading during driving is a right pain. Watched the gf play it all morning and she enjoys it, just not my cuppa tea.

any way to stop the game from switching to window mode when I alt-tab? The only way I find is to alt-tab while game is playing (not in pause menu) but dosn't work everytime

Performance is excellent for me. Love what I've seen of the game so far - it's very GTA-esque in style.

The mini games are excellent - Spider Tank is very amusing.

No because what I mean is they both cancel each other out meaning vsync isn't working but the stutters gone. Its quite bizzare really but its worked for me so happy to share
Well it didn't work so well for me. The best for me is sync off in game and adaptive vsync on in the Nvidia control panel. There are still some stutters when driving but they are less frequent. This setup does result in some tearing though and so is not ideal.

Fair dues. Im running SLI so maybe its why its helped me? Hd to turn max frames to 5 as well

Do fire fighters and paramedics react in this game? I've caused numerous accidents at traffic light, sat back to watch to carnage and wait for the response but neither ever come. Seems a bit lame

I'll bite.

The point Witcher's making is that the keys on a PC keyboard are digital; binary. They're either being pressed, or not being pressed. Your use of the word "gentle" implies that only pushing the key halfway down will somehow affect the input. It's nothing to do with the intensity of the keypress, but how long the keypress is.

For any game with an emphasis on precise character control, a controller is the ideal solution for this reason; the sticks are analog. Modifier keys on a keyboard are good but offer a lesser degree of control still.

OK, so I used the wrong choice of words, I should have been a bit clearer. But if you are unclear about something, surely it is better to ask for a bit more clarity or ask, "did you mean this or that", rather than jump to conclusions and make yourself look a prat.

I completely agree with this, analogue gamepad always trumps digital keys for this sort of thing, which is fine as long as you can still use M&K on foot.

GTA was less punishing in this regard though as it was possible to use small, short key taps to more subtly control cars. It was still rubbish compared to using a pad to drive though :)

I don't think it's just gpu power, I also have a 290 which currently is at stock and running in PCI-E 8x. I run everything on ultra (HBAO+ high etc), including textures, except for AA which I have as Temporal SMAA. My fps ranges from 50 - 70 at 1080p. However, if your sig is anything to go by, the difference between us is I have a 4670k at 4.4ghz and 16GB ram.

Paramedics definitely turn up, their response time is a little slow though. I haven't yet seen a fire crew turn up though.

enjoying the game, but the driving is getting me pretty frustrated and police just smash into me and using keys for driving is near impossible, time to find my pad!

yeah looks like this is the first game to properly give the i7 920 some trouble! Still going to hold out for haswell-e for the biggest boost in performance!
ram usage is only at about 80% though normally - except this 1 time i played for 4 hours and it crept up to 92% and seemingly caused the games ui to become unresponsive.

I'd love to know why this game uses nearly 4GB of VRAM when playing at 1080P on my mates Titan rig, The visuals just don't justify it IMHO.
