I seem to be the only person saying that Beckham was over rated, and I'm the only person or one of few that I know to think he was over rated. Not quite sure which bandwagon you might be talking about ?

Everything I see / hear is always positive about St Beckham, and that he's still a good player.

He was a good crosser / passer of the ball.
He can not beat a man, he can not tackle, he can not head a ball, he has lacked pace all his life.

There were / are much better free kick takers, and equally as good crossers of the ball.

Beckham is the most profiled player on the planet, and this in part is down the English media, A good player yes, World Class sorry.
 
RC's free kicks pretty much always looked spectacular, bit like Ronaldo's. But also like Ronaldo, his success rate was relatively low.

Id say it was pretty debatable. Juninho P. is the only one I would definitely rate above him. Still even if you rated everyone on that list above him....that's still a pretty small list, all of them are world class freekick takers, including Beckham.
 
I'd say that they are all better at free kicks then Beckham, or at least on par.

But a lot if not all of those players had more to their individual game then Beckham had, and as a result are far better players.

The list was a simple response to being asked who I thought was better in a deadball situation.
 
Beckham is more then capable in dead ball situations, I don't know if I'd go as far as to say world class.

He has scored world class free kicks, but I've never found him to be consistent.
Although I will hold my hands up and say he is one of the better free kick takers, but its hard to be Juninho, that man gets a free kick 30 yards or closer, its almost like a penalty.
 
Just got back from the game; although we only won it right at the death, had it not have been for Alex (who was excellent) we'd have won at a canter, he made some cracking last ditch tackles and blocks. I thought Masch, Alonso and Gerrard were totally dominating the game where as Riera and Kuyt were shockingly poor. It's amazing how Chelsea are where they are considering how bad they are at the moment.

Haven't seen the red card again but at first thought it looked like a foul by Alonso.

Beckham (possibly Harte for a while at Leeds) was the only player i used to expect to score when he got a free-kick.
 
You need to watch some of the players I listed Baz :) they are / were wonderful dead ball specialists, Beckham is good as well, don't get me wrong, but there are better / just as good free kick takers out there :)

And when I saw the red card i was like left just confused, but Mike Riley sums up the FA pretty well.

I always thought Beckham was over rated, a fantastic player no doubt


But I feel his ability was over exaggerated because of his status within the game


His set pieces though... consistently the best I have seen

Ridiculous. Beckham WAS World Class. In the 1999 season there wasn't a player who could touch him. Watch any old United match from that era and you'll see just how many strings Beckham pulled. He created almost every goal for us.

Also, the topic of him always being slow was untrue as was his inability to beat people, he could, but as they say, a pass is quicker than a dribble, and there were no better passers in the game (arguably there still isn't).
