Weekend Football Thread - 15/8 to 17/8 *spoilers*

Anti Chelsea - hmmm - base something on more than one post would be a good step forward

Everthing I have said in serious posts have stated that Chelsea will be the main contenders

but of course that doesnt matter - idle banter obviously matters more to you

Whether you state Chelsea are contenders or not does not detract from the FAHCT that you regularly make silly remarks about them (and Liverpool) which deserve to be ridiculed, and before you go all defensive on me that's something even some of your fellow fans cringe about.
It's nothing personal, you just say daft things sometimes:)

.... Is it not "FACHT" ? :D

I recently put a £10 bet on Chelsea to win the league, I just hope it isn't tempting fate, as I really don't like them. (Nothing against them, comes with my fondness of Arsenal)

Palacios is a beast and quite possibly our best signing since the Premiership began. He's going to be huge for us.

Can't remember Spurs ever dominating Liverpool like that, thought we could have won that 3-0 or 4-0. Very poor penalty but then I'm used to that against one of the supposed "top 4"

On another note really can't stand Gerrard these days, tool.

Wasnt really that impressed with our performance today. First half we look quite comfortable, but too many mistakes were made. Im still not convinced by Fosters ability in goal, i get nervous everytime a long high ball or corner comes in as on more than one occasion he seems to come half way out to collect a ball then back peddles.

Impressed by Nani again, him and Evra are linking up really well i hope he can stay fit.

Ashame Owen didnt put the chance away at the end would have been nice for him to score on his debut.

I think we need to get another good midfielder in, Scholes and Giggs dont cut it anymore.

Agreed, we need a more attacking player who can offer a goal threat and link up well in the final third. I would absolutely love to see us go for Van De Vaart. He would be an absolute bargain and has guaranteed quality. Sadly I think Fergie will stick with Giggs and Scholes :(

Id like van der vaart also. still, id rather arsenal or chelsea win the league than liverpool :p

Who else is there thats someone to go for in midfield that wont command a ridiculous sum?

Players kicking the ball out of play and flopping over the GK.

Yes I know Gomes was stupid but I still don't think those pathetic dives are penalties... the ball was going out of play and I think these so called "stonewall" penalties should be stopped. Players run into the area, see the GK dive and just fall over, it's ******** tbh.

LOL! - Next you will be advocating Harald Schumacher challenges be legalised.

It's a penalty, simple as that. When you're going that speed and someone flies at your legs, you're going to fall over.

If those penalties should be stopped, what does the keeper have to lose in diving at people's feet in the penalty area?

Just talking about the intent from the attacking player.... he see's the keeper going to ground, kicks the ball and falls over. If that's everyone's idea of sport and what it's all about then you're no sportsman in my mind. If I'm in that postion on a football field I'm not expecting anything at all as I wasn't representing a threat on goal... the ball has already gone out of play, why is it different because it's the Premiership??

Those decisions are given world wide in football, you don't bring a player down in the box in such an obvious way and get away with it.

I understand the argument, "he wasn't going to do anything with the ball" but does that some how make it right for the goal keeper to foul him ? The attacker, is very simply been clever, he's not diving, he's just taking advantage of inexperienced/nervous/aggressive goalkeeper. The fault with these fouls, lies with the goal keeper imo, the sooner he stops charging out, the sooner they stop getting these decisions.

You see players, in a similar vain, doing this all across the pitch, waiting for the tackle kind of thing.

on a lighter note. Anyone else spot Cliff Richard in the tottenham stands:

If Gomes doesn't come flying out of his goal, Johnson's taking a more controlled touch and is more than capable of keeping the ball in play and taking either a shot or cutting it back.

Gomes came flying out which made it a 50-50 ball, Johnson got there first and Gomes took him out. It's a penalty all day long.
