He was excellent but he's played better. From the replay during the game he deserved to go; he lunged in from a long way out. Smith's tackle was worse though; thankfully he totally missed Arbeloa.

Agree. They've developed in to a fantastic double act. Mascherano gives Alonso so much time on the ball.

They also ignored Rafa's recent quotes where he said he wants to keep Alonso and Masch and instead used some carefully cut quotes from months and months ago.
Anyway, like i said in the transfer thread; the reason why he didn't leave is because Arsenal and Juve couldn't afford him and after this season he's going to cost even more.
