Weekend Football Thread **Spoilers**

Do you think Evra was feigning an injury then?

No I dont, I'm sure whether it was his face, jaw, chest whatever being barged over with added use of a forearm/elbow is going to take the wind out of you

None of us know whether or not Evra was holding his face to suggest he'd been hit there or just holding it out of pain for another part of his body. Granted it's likely he was trying to pull a fast one but I dont think it's as cut and dried as him staying down just to get a free kick especially when there was a clear and blatant foul in there

evra clearly hit his head on ballacks shoulder though

Clear foul/obstruction as no attempt to play the ball was made. also play should have been stopped whilst he was injured.

bad refereeing.

I thought it was a raised arm, and a professional foul, he blocked Evra's run. Free kick for me, regardless of which teams were involved.

United didn't get that, same way Rooney was offside and Chelsea didn't get that.

Swings and round abouts.

Video shows chest.

So Chelsea played on because it was not a head injury.

End of story.

Unless I'm mistaken the grievance is with the ref for not blowing the whistle when he did in the case of Ballack only moments earlier (which FYI was a clear example of diving/playing for an advantage)

Now whether or not the ref was in a situation where he had to blow is irrelevant as it's in the inconsistency in one ref's game that's the problem. If he was playing the advantage then he still needs to be re-schooled as there was no advantage to be had either.

Spot on

Also spot on

Overall on the balance of the game a draw is the very least we deserved.

Seemed to me a combination of sternum & jaw, obviously not flat in the face as Evra was implying....

Well you obviously don't think it was his face.

Next time Drogba writhes about in agony holding his face after getting an elbow in the sternum or jaw (it wasn't his jaw, but just for arguments sake like) will you have the same sort of sympathy for him in giving him the benefit of the doubt? No.
He wasn't holding his face as he'd been hit the the chest or jaw, get real.
He was feigning an injury and he and his team paid a price for that, great:)

I wouldn't argue with that at all.

Also going to put it out there and say he's one of the most overrated left backs in the world. Yes he's won the league 3 times in a row but Paulo Ferreria won it twice in a row...

There's clearly no better LB in world football at this moment in time. Two seasons ago Clichy could have had a say in it but Evra's moved past that now

so you can categorically say that evra didnt hit his face on ballacks shoulder? How do you know?

I'm sure that it hurt quite a bit considering the speed he was going and the size of ballack.

In the earlier incident, Chelsea lost possession of the ball when, in the opinion of the ref, Ballack was fouled, ergo, free kick to Chelsea.

In the Evra incident, man u still maintained possession of the ball, only to be lost by Carrick, not from pressure, but his poor control and pass.
Which is why the ref played on. He knew there was a foul but allowed man u the advantage of possession, which Carrick then messed up.

No inconsistency here that i can see.

I support niether man u or Chelsea.

So because he was holding his face straight away means that the part of him that did get clattered by Ballack didn't hurt whatsoever?

There's a difference between doing what Drogba does i.e. falling over his own feet, rolling around on the floor, getting attention on the pitch and off of it and then coming like there was nothing wrong with him in the first place and a player staying down to insure a free kick is given - like 95% of professional footballers do not that it's cut and dried that that's what Evra was doing today

From the footage it certain appeared that from the point of impact and the camera back on Evra once the goal was scored he hadn't appeared to have moved whatsoever and unless he's incredibly stupid if he was faking injury I'm sure he'd of got up by that point

Can I?

How can you be so sure it hurt when it didn't seem to hurt after the goal was given?
Did the pain just subside at that particular moment or did Evra's undoubted frustration override any injury he may have had?

There was a playing running towards Carrick before he'd even received possession of the ball so there was no advantage, had he not played it first time then by the time he'd of controlled the pass the player would have had been on him tackling him so no advantage there either

He was still down after the goal had been given, in fact from the TV pictures it's a full two minutes after the incident before Evra is shown on his feet again, surely enough time to have got over being winded or any impact injury to his face do you not think?

Or do you have to be down for 5 minutes like Drogba is?

The change of rule (I know there wasn't/isn't a written rule but you know what I mean) was brought about to stop the game getting stopped every few minutes when Drogba et al are rolling around on the floor. Evra wasn't seriously injured so there was no obligation on either Chelsea or the refs part to stop the game; the game continued, Chelsea went on to score and Evra was fine so ultimately the new rule had a positive effect.

Whether Foy was right to not award Utd a free-kick or if he gave Utd an advantage, is another matter though.

I don't see how you can compare Drogba and Evra.

Drogba is an awful constant diver, yet immensely talented and brilliant footballer. I was very impressed with him today, he looked very fit and sharp. I'd even go as far as to say almost back to been near his best.

Evra can't be compared with him.

You talk some utter utter testicles at times Gustov. Even the most died in the wool Chelsea fan could see his Elbow hit im in the face and with intent.

lol you fail

About 4 other people have said his elbow hit his chest.

Still wanna tell me it hit his face?

Or you going to have the balls to admit you're wrong? Didn't think so...

If he went down holding his chest I'd be full of sympathy. The fact that he held his face made me laugh when we scored from the resulting attack even though it should have been a free kick.
