Weekend Football Thread *spoilers*

I can see why people would use that argument, sure. To them I'd say watch him :) Make up your mind from what he can do on a field, not that Spain have got a copious amount of phenomenal midfielders!

I also think we'll see at the World Cup that Fabregas isn't second choice anymore, he was sub/started a few of the early Euro 2008 games and he was that good when he did make his cameo appearances that by the final he was in the starting line-up, pretty sure that hasn't changed. You have to make space for players like him

I agree completely and because we see him week in week out we know how good he is, you seemed to be struggling as to why anyone would think he isn't World Class so I broke it down for you :)

Yeah I understand, I think I like him too much anyway

dm are you criticising Theo for being confident now? He's nothing like Adebayor in any way. He seems like a polite and humble kid, not an arrogant fool with a massive ego who goes around headbutting his own team mates. You literally don't need an excuse to criticise Theo/Song/Diaby etc. even if they do something good you will find a very odd way to make it sound bad

Always love beating the scousers. Especially when you have a free corporate ticket, free 5 course meal, free 3 points and the chance to wind up the scousers. Good day all round.

Disappointed with the Atmosphere at Anfield, always looked forward to going there and the scouse fans were rubbish, our glorious away fans put them to shame :p

Spain certainly are blessed with central midfielders. I still live in hope that maybe a £40m bid for Fabregas would take him to Man Utd. :p It's never going to happen but he's exactly the type of player we need in midfield, him and Essien would be immense.

I think he would probably slit his own throat then go to Man Utd:p...if he was to leave Arsenal he would go back to Barca and thats fine but if i was Wenger id slap a £50mill price tag on him and tell Barca we want Yaya Toure or Xavi/Iniesta in return...that would soon cool their interest in him i imagine:p.

But even if we lost Fabregas i think we would still be ok as Ramsey is getting better and better and is looking more and more like Fabregas replacement at some point.

Well.....if Fabregas can't get into the Spain team it's normally because Xavi/Iniesta/Alonso are in the team, which by default means he can't be 'World Class' because he can't even get into his National side.

If he was 'World Class' he would be in there over Alonso Shirley?

Not really Alonso is world class as well.

And they play two different roles; Fabregas is much less defensive - a midfield of Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas would be far too attacking, so he would have to knock Xavi or Iniesta out of that Spanish side, and not Alonso. Just because he can't get into Spain's team it doesn't mean that he isn't world class.

Read a few more of the posts about it ;).

Hoping that Cesc goes abroad when he leaves Arsenal and not to Man Utd/Chelsea, also hoping for more than £40m (no joke!), can't wait to rip off those annoying Cules, all they do is harp on about Cesc. You'd think they'd be happy with what they have for christ's sake.

Like i said £50mill plus either Yaya Toure..maybe if he comes back Kolo will come back:p...failing that id ask for either Xavi or Iniesta to replace Fabregas at Arsenal. Hell id even taken Henry back if he was offered lol.

Cant see it happening but it would be an awesome deal i think for both Barca and Arsenal. Or better still sell Fab for £50+plus mill and get David Villa or Aguero...we need a finisher....someone who scores goals week in week out.

Fabregas IS world class though (and I think its blatantly unfair and unrealistic to say otherwise)

On a general note - does this also mean there is only one "world class" keeper - because thats simply laughable!!!

Read the thread Franky ;)

It doesn't mean there is only one World Class keeper but would you say a keeper that isn't even number 1 for his Country is World Class?

If they can't get into the national side how can any player be classed as world class?

what if the 3 best goalkeepers in the world all played for the same country? everyone else clearly miles below them but only one can be a first teamer.

It does IF its suggested only those in a World 1st XI are world class (which is what someone stated) - that is what I was suggesting is laughable

....unless you think there is more than one goalie on the field at the same time :D

Its also the case that Lampard and Gerrard usually only play together for England because the options on the left arent very good. Imo Gerrard is a lot better than Lampard, but they cant play together centrally and you lose a good percentage of Gerrard's ability playing wide.....will be very interesting to see if/when Joe Cole gets back to his best if Lampard loses out his 1st place (would be a much more balanced team and perform better) ......but is Lampard world class....without a doubt
