Weekend Football Thread *spoilers*

*cries*

New manager (sort of) same old ****.

He said he wanted to give the team one more chance, how many chances do they need?
Same negative football, same team selection as last game and same lack of quailty, motivation and self belief.

I thought we were better, but that's not saying much. The Welsh weren't good, they just took their chances.

I was expecting changes, more attacking, playing two wingers, ect ect but I'll have to hope that we get changed next game, pitty it's Newcastle who will probably destroy us.

Postitive news is that game is sold out, 10'000 Newcastle fans and we've sold out :D so will be a good atmosphere.

/not that anyone cares about Sheffield Wednesday.

Liverpool, didn't see that coming (okay I was kinda hoping they'd lose) They'll put a run together at some point and with the league been fairly tight...

United, got well beaten by Fulham by all accounts, cracking result for Fulham, poor for United but United did have a lot of injuries and mainly in defence.

Snow was fun though :D came down quite bad on the way home! Looking like it's going to snow over night as well :)

There's only 5,700 Newcastle fans going. We sold out and asked for more I think but you guys said no.

Predictable result for United, its what happens when you ignore the areas of the team that need reinforcing for two straight years.

Man Utd crisis? Just seen MOTD. No strength in depth in the defensive department is obviously Man Utd's downfall. Fergie has focussed on bringing in midfielders in recent times in a vain attempt to find another Keane.

He should have bolstered the defense too, as he doesn't seem to have any real faith in any of the youth defenders.

Also, in this game and last week against Villa: why the hell didn't Ferguson unleash Obertan? Erratic and unpredictable, but he's proven he can create chances and did well against wolfsburg in his last game. Instead United end up with 3 strikers on without anyone to support and feed them.

The league certainly isn't over yet but Fergie has to buy well in January to mount a serious challenge.

A 2-0 loss to portsmouth who when the game was played were bottom of the league with 2 home wins........something needs to change quickly at Liverpool or god knows where we will finish this year. :(

Dont talk carp please

Rio, Vidic, Brown, Evans, Neville, Hargreaves (being a very good full right back when needed), 2* da Silva (Fabio came on for 1st sub appearance after injury), OShea all out injured prior to the game - 8 defenders all missing plus our clear No1 goalie (PIG was definitely at fault for at least one goal - although he also made a blinding save and saved a corner from being awarded) - if anything thats OVER strength in depth

Just unlucky in the defensive department at the moment with all the injuries

Both Da Silva's are great going forward but they need to learn how to defend (as they are still very young) - not only that but rarely is someone put straight on from the start after an injury (and without scholes's stupidity utd would have lasted until after the 1st half before conceeding ) so it was sensible not to put Fabio on until when Fergie did

As stated earlier Murphy seems to save himself for Utd games - but saying that Utd really didnt press and harry in the midfield as they should, they were 2nd to most balls for majority of the game, and the speed wasnt in the away team's game yesterday to break Fulham down , I suspected this would be a bad result

Obertan is a great player but Im not entirely convinced it would have made much difference (and I gave up hoping when Welbeck came on, I just dont see why he got a new contract recently unless its to do with having an extra homegrown player in the squad)

Benítez: "I have seen the replay and for me it is not a sending-off, but anyway the referee was perfect. He didn't make any mistakes. Now Javier is injured, and I will say again the referee didn't make any mistake."

Press: "We don't understand? You say the referee didn't make a mistake?"

Benítez: "No he was perfect. Perfect. He was perfect."

Press: "So why was it not a sending-off?"

Benítez: "I have seen the replay, for me it's not a sending-off, but anyway. Perfect."

Press: "Was there any particular reason why players like Gerrard or Torres couldn't get it together and perform?"

Benítez: "No, the referee was perfect so Torres, he didn't have any problems."

Press: "You were a goal down before the sending-off, the average observer wouldn't say you were controlling the game at half-time. Why do you say it turned the game when you were a goal down already?"

Benítez: "If you see we created a couple of chances and we have plenty of possession in the first half I was convinced we could change the game."

Press: "Can you just explain what you said about the referee?"

Benítez: "Perfect. No mistakes."

Press: "But you say he made a mistake with the sending-off."

Benítez: "Perfect."

Press: "Don't you think Torres was fortunate to escape being penalised for that elbow?"

Benítez: "The referee was perfect."
