* weekend football thread *

I guess what Ripper is getting at, is that attendances or ground capacities on average 40+ years ago weren't the same as these days.

It wasn't very common for grounds to regularly sell out like it is today.

Fair enough the ground capacities part was wrong but it's only been in the last ~20 years that stadiums regularly sell out.

What was Newcastle's average attendace in the 50's, 60's or 70's?

So you see my point. Average attendances are far more these days.

The fans still have to turn up though, Newcastle's attendance could've easily dropped sub-40k.

So 48k average during a recession in an area with some of the highest unemployment figures in the country ain't bad, that's all I was saying. :p

Anyone watching Portsmouth v. Sunderland?

Both sides have had a good goal scoring opportunity wasted.

Play up Pompey I don't want Sunderland to get any more points!

Peter Crouch has about as much ball control as a wet sock.

He's just gifted Sunderland the ball and they've made a cracking break for Jones to score.

Can't believe it. :(

*edit* Ha quality! :)

Ridiculous rule being booked for celebrating. I can understand some celebrations maybe warranting a yellow card, but for it to be automatic, it's a bit silly. It's not like the guy jumped into the crowd and started dry humping someone.
