What did you do to your bike today?

Last few days ive spent a bit of time contemplating my ownership of the SV. I took it out to the New Forest just West of Southampton yesterday.

Now I bought an (IMO) expensive car a couple of months ago, and since then my situation has changed. Situation now is I'm mainly going to use the bike for getting to work and back, and I'm rarely going to go home (Manchester) Original plan was once a month, but it's going to be less than that. My dad is selling his old bike as he bought a Pan Euro this week. His old bike is a Yamaha Diversion 900 perfectly set up for touring; it's done 70000 miles however.

Last week I also did my first track day and absolutely want to get into it a lot more.

So, I'm absolutely for having two bikes :p the car is going to cost close to £600 a month and at the moment, is going to sit on a car park. It may already have to go, which would suck, but be a good decision. The SV going to be used for commuting. Now I love the SV. I've had it for 3 years, but I don't know whether I'd like a new bike. I could track the SV? And buy another bike for on the road, for example, my dads old bike, but then I really want an 08 R1, or a nearly new Cb1000R. Would my dads bike be a bit too... Vanilla for the road?

Would it be better to buy a track bike? then I remember I've one one track day. One. I have a habit of going balls deep into something I enjoy. :p but if I did, Then do I need to buy a van instead of the car? Or a car capable of towing a trailer for a bike?

I don't ******* know. **** my life. I have no idea what I want or what I want to do

Initial thoughts. I think it's too early to buy a track bike. The SV is currently fine for the track and is faster than me. I just have to hope I don't crash it too badly. The car is far too expensive to sit on a car park costing £150 a week. If I'm going to buy a cheap **** car, then I'd need a bike capable of touring, and my dads has been offered to me for very cheap, and would cost around £300 a year To keep. That's servicing, tax, insurance

2 bikes is a must ;):D In fact 2 is a minimum really...

You know there's a whole race series based on the SV650, right? So there's A LOT of track spares around for them. If you want to do a lot of track days you'll have to have a trailer as riding to the track just isn't practicale really.

Convert the SV650 into a track bike. Buy a cheap eastate car and trailer. Then buy a 2nd commuter/touring bike that you can still have a bit of fun on. VFR800, or anything naked/faired TBH. You can tour and commute on an R1 if you wanted to, plenty do.

Wtf

Why not simply stick a couple of bolts in the holes? Why do you need a plate?

Because.....

Yeah I'm aware SV's are very popular track bikes, hence why it's a strong thought. Cheap estate car and trailer is probably what I'm thinking. A mondeo for example, something like that. But I have no idea at the minute. I really don't :(

Why is your car costing £600 a month?
loan £453 a month, insurance and tax take it up to around £600. BMW 340i :p

And lose value, don't forget that.

If it's brand new you're probably losing £100's a day on it.

To put it in perspective, a brand new Ducati 959 panigale is £140 a month on PCP.

If you use a car a lot and are going to keep it for 5+ years then a nice new expensive car makes sense, but not if it's gonna be sat around while you ride to work on a £3k bike...

It was registered in October, bought in April with 600 miles on it, so not as bad as it could be. But exactly, even if I do take the car To work, it's a 7 mile journey each way, generally sat in traffic. There are the odd times I'll get a clear run, but nowhere near enough to justify it.

Let's not suggest bikes yet :p But thanks :D

Let's always suggest bikes :p :D

I noticed a problem with your post. I have fixed it for you ;)
