What do you think of the 4070Ti?

stil close I wouldnt buy this for 4K anyway and dont forget it uses less power I aint got issue of its performance and uplift from last its the pricing for 70 tier card I have an issue with

its a shame we actually have really good cards but stupidly priced from both AMD and Nvidia

impressive.. nvidias got a massive jump this generation, any efficiency metrics to go with that.. this chip is going to be a big hit with gaming laptops

We thought that now the miners had gone, the pandemic was over, FINALLY some sense would return to the market, and instead we have total chaos, worse than I have ever seen it. Such a disappointing shame.

I actually didn't think it would change anything and it hasn't, NV and AMD aren't going to roll back pricing unless they have to. That's not how big corps operate.

Imagine if they'd kept that named as a 4080 with that performance gulf!

The reality:
1. 3080 was a £700+ card at release. A tiny proportion of people were able to get it at £650 until at least 1+ year later.
2. We've had 15+% inflation in the last 2 years.
3. We've lost nearly 10% £/$
4. Some people don't count power efficiency as an improvement.

You add up all the above and what a surprise, you come out with this exact price for a 3rd tier card.

This card looks like its going to be 20% faster than a 3080 at 2K and use >10% less power. So a 1 third improvement over the 3080. We were 'promised' a 50% Pascal-like improvement by the leakers. Yeah, its a disappointment. But most of the posters in this thread seem out of touch with post inflation reality.

Why are you comparing it to a 3080?

The 3070ti launched at £600, which even at the time was considered high. The real price of the 4070ti is likely to be around of £900. Inflation doesn't account for that.

3070ti was $600 so 600+15%=690? unless Nvidias inflation is running at around 35% I'm not how we get to $800, and don't forget to factor in shrinkflation of the die which is 25% smaller this time round.

I was comparing it to the 3080.

£690 + >10% from £/$ does come up short of £800+. However the projected performance difference between a 3070ti and 4070ti looks to be 40%. Bit less power too. Swings and roundabouts.

Edit: you quoted in $ sorry so cant use £/$ here.
However its an 8gig card - inadequate in people's beloved Hardware unbox's opinion vs a 12gig which imo equates to a good 10%.

B) you can't easily compare the 3070ti as it released 5 months further into the gen than this 4070ti is doing. Thus only needs to be about 30% faster rather than the usual 40%.

However that works against my above 3080 calculation by 2.5 months too.

I guess due to the similarity in price.

Edit: Also due to people considering the 3080 good value and anything other than the 3060ti to be poor value.

And 5 months later into the generation.

Everyone said this was going to be an overpriced-turd of a card. For once, NVidia didn't disappoint.

It is not a turd of a card. The silicon is very good and it delivers very good performance in every metric. You can be disappointed with the name but the real kick in the nuts will be the price, the only thing wrong with this product is the price.

if they stuck with the usual 70 tier pricing this could have probably been the gem, one can only dream it will be corrected :(

Fact is all the new cards are priced as if an extension of the previous generation, ie if the 4xxx is 40% faster than the 3xxx equivilent then the price is 40% higher too. Its just a trick to try and dump last gen product and get everyone to accept a step change in pricing going forward. Nvidia and others got used to that juicy pandemic/ mining profit and rather than seeing it as an unexpected bonus want it to be the norm so they are trying to keep it going by fixing prices way above where they used to be, Moores law isn't dead, competition is.

GN absolutely ripped it a new one, there is no coming back from that sort of ripping .

DOA
gamers are fickle, they will sell like hot cakes, they see thye nvidia branding and say to themselves it must be good, nvidia aint stupid they know gamers will shell out for the latest gpu's, especially as the 4090,80 are selling, even though they pi55poor value.

There may be disappointment with the price of the 4070ti and thats totally understandable, however, have you actually looked at what retailers are trying to sell 3090ti`s for ? If I had to choose on performance and price then theres only one option and thats the 4070ti I`m afraid to say. Thats how crazy this all is !!

Proof they are selling in numbers, they are in stock everywhere, even nvidia cant shift the cheapest 4080 FE.
