What film did you watch last night?

Pacific Rim - 8/10. A pretty solid summer action blockbuster. Giant robots battling giant monsters in a homage to old Godzilla movies. Whats not to love?

This.

Definitely the best of the summer blockbusters I've seen this year (Man of Steel, WWZ, Star Trek, IM3). Far from perfect, but highly entertaining :)

8/10 from me as well.

Two odd ones from Ben Wheatley this weekend:-

Sightseers - A very odd couple go on a caravan holiday around the north of England and very odd/bad things happen. Had some genuinely funny laugh out loads from me, I really enjoyed it. 4/5

A Field In England - After the success of Sightseers I was really looking forward to this. It kept me entertained but I am not sure what I was watching a bit of the time, seriously odd! It is not that the story was super odd, it was a bit odd but fine, it was more the arty silences and stillness. I watched it on Film 4, recorded when it was on last week and, very decent of them, they broadcast it with no adverts. 3/5

World War Z

Very disappointing, still watchable, average
6/10

I knew it wouldn't be like the book, but there so many good bits from the book they missed out.
At no point did they explain what zombies are like the book
They could have used that American story where they fight to the death, the whole bit where they talk about shock and awe
Zombies walking under water and all the ghost ships
The frozen zombies up Noorth
The dog thing was never really explained, despite it being Isreals main defence
could have even wangled in the South African Orange order

So yeah read the book, the book is awesome, film not so.

The campaign - up until now i have not found will ferrell remotely funny.
I found this film highly amusing! Probably because it's what i reckon real politics in america is like.
8/10

Hot Fuzz. Good, but I think it goes a bit off the boil in the second half, once the big shootout kicks off. Although, to be honest, that's kinda the point of the whole exercise, I guess.

That's pretty much how I felt. It just seemed to lose it appeal after a decent beginning. Certainly fell short of Shaun of the Dead.

The Evil Dead (2013)

I was quite bored throughout.
No amount of blood can make up for another re-make that wasn't really needed.
4/10

Currently wishing i could afford to go and watch Pacific Rim on IMax.

I actually loved it, personally think they did really well to make another film that was actually anywhere near as good as SotD...

The third from early reviews looks like it might finish off the trilogy on a good note too, so I hope it's not disappointing compared to the first two!

Doom - I had completely forgotten about this film based on the game which I remember going to see at the cinema with my mates, it’s not that bad for a switch off your brain and have a beer movie and that’s what my rating is based on. :)

7/10
