What film did you watch last night?

Star Trek - Into Darkness... good, but did not enjoy it so much second time around... it seemed to plod a bit this time. It looks great on 3D Blu-ray and far better than in the theatre... the 3D seemed near perfect at home, and as good as any native 3D stuff I've watched, at home or in the cinema....

I think some theatres really need to check their projectors and screens are set up correctly... the Odeon In Taunton, where we saw this was pretty dire, with poor IQ especially toward the screen edges... should have complained I suppose.

Anyway about 7/10 for STID.

Oh, and I HATE the Blues Brothers too... loath it!.... but there go - you can't please all the people... :p

Star Trek into Darkness - 3/10

Probably the worse film I have seen this year, dreadful story, effects and plotholes you could drive a starship through

Life is Beautiful (Italian - La Vita e Bella). Quite a strange film. Set in Italy in WW2, it starts out as a very Chaplin-esque comedy, until halfway through when the lead and his wife and son are taken to a concentration camp and the lead has to try to hide what's really going on from his son. It works pretty well, but it's hard to shake the feeling that it's not really the setting for comedy.

Great movie, the second half is anything but a comedy. The father is trying to hide the truth from his son by acting as if everything is normal. The juxtaposition of his clowning whilst in a concentration camp helps build the tension for what we all know will happen.

Roberto Benigni jumping on Jack Nicholson at the oscars was a great moment.

Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.

Don't know what to make of this - certainly didn't come away being wowed by it.
There's a lot of plot holes/inconsistencies whcih detract from the film.
