What film did you watch last night?

Maze Runner - worth a watch but got the impression that its going to go all hunger games and start churning out sequels every christmas for the next 3 years.

This is the aim.

It all started with Twilight, which made big money. So Hollywood is now searching out stories, written by women, which are about teenagers.

Twilight
The Host << this was the big hope and seemed to fail
Hunger Games << using the pulling power of J.Lawrence this is doing well.
Divergent << an shocking amount of money was spent on advertising this movie and it did reasonably well. Sequel has completed filming.
Maze Runner << sequel has started filming

All these movies appear to be made in the same style/formula, camera angles, hue, etc. Almost as if the same producers/directors/set designers are making these movies. All these movies seem to be timeless and set in a parallel universe - ie. not in the past, not in the future.

There will be more, of that we can be assured.

If you enjoy these movies starring teenagers, you may want to check The 100. Once again, the cast is almost entirely made of teenagers. The style is different, though.

The other genre which is a proven money maker is the comic book movie.
And the 3rd (almost guaranteed money-maker), the animated movie - Frozen made a huge amount of cash a year ago.

I've always wondered if it's strange for the cast to play teenagers when the vast majority of them are in their mid to late 20s. For example, the chick who pays Octavia is 28.

Guardians of the Galaxy 8/10

wasnt expecting to be into this but thought it was great - visually really pretty, funny (very natural bickering etc also "that was my favorite knife" lololol :p:p)
liked how they didn't try and justify itself either - it is what it is and went with it. comic book films get all carried away with trying to appeal to non-comic people (and sort of compromise on themselves to do it)

Fury 8/10

Saving Private Ryan with Tanks, really enjoyed it and along with Lawless, another film that shows Shia Le Beef can act damn good.

No its not and comparing the two in the same sentence is sacrilege.

Right up until the tank fight was OK but after that it turned into studio set piece nonsense.

The dining room scene was filler but the director managed to get the Brad Pitt body shot in ( don't mention the scarring on his back lol)

Then grenades went off inside the Tank at the end and Brad Pitt was not blown up to pieces by them. The fight scene at the end paused while conversation took place inside the tank then started again after the conversations finished.:p

It was like the Nazis where waiting for the schmaltzy dialogue to finish out side then attack again.

There is no way the Nazi at the end would have left him hiding under the tank.:p

I could go on...But the start of the film showed promise but then turned naff..The direction at the end was terrible...The young Kid (forget his name as I didn't care for any of the characters) looked either shocked or confused or in neeed of the toilet he didn't know what to do.:p

So don't for one minute Compare Fury Crud with the Brilliant, Visceral scenes we saw in Saving Private Ryan. They don't even come close.

Manny - Documentary about world champion boxer Manny Pacquiao. Really enjoyed it, I am a massive fan of Pacquiao and was good to learn abit of history about him. Bring on that Mayweather fight. - 8/10

Interstellar - 6/10

Visually stunning but overalls fails to deliver. Some parts were unnecessary and could have cut the run time down from the best part of 3 hours. Not usually a problem when the film keeps you interested but this dragged!

I wanted this to be so much better..

Way to go overboard on my comparison of a movie thats gritty and bloody as well, if id have thought its as 'good' as SPR i would have said the words, which i didnt but dig that hole deeper

Keep ranting though, its entertaining :D

The man studied film don't-you-know which apparently also turns you into a complete arse.

Interstellar. A must see, especially in IMAX. Highly recommend, especially for the visuals and sound design (Although speech audio could have been better).

I think easyrider has a point actually. He clearly cares considerably about film, so when a comparison is made like SPR with Fury like was made previously I think it's acceptable to be gobsmacked and almost offended at that opinion. SPR is a loved and critically acclaimed film, whereas Fury is none of those things.
