What film did you watch last night?

Fury 9/10 - wasn't expecting much but found it to be very powerful with only the ending spoiling it's tropical twilight transition period.

+ The Crow is an awesome film - one of my favourites ever with a really good soundtrack too.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes 8.5/10 - really enjoyed it. CGI apes were fanstastically done. Very good interplay between the humans and the apes. That approaching ape army looked terrifying. Can't wait for the third one.

Paddington

Just got back after a half term outing to the Cinema.

The kids (5 and 7) gave it 10/10 - prolly a 7.5 to 8 from me. Not something I'd chose to watch myself, but I've seen far worse, great story, good effects and a great family giggle

I read some reviews while watching it. All of them said "Wow wait for the cool action scenes at the end"...

Not sure who paid them to write that crap.. Luckily Clash of Clans saved me from ending my life.

Ha haa!

Tasty sandwich saved mine. Finally get around to watching Inherent Vice tonight, well probably.

I really want to see Fury. Might consider watching it soon, I have heard it is boring which put me off a little.

Primer -

Love 'clever' time travel movies, but what could have been 'clever' suffered due to the budget I think.

I spent a lot of time struggling with the audio and I just found the whole thing a little boring and was forcing myself to watch - not a good sign :(

It did however pique my interest and I spent a bit of time on imdb and google trying to understand the timelines/story arc.

undecided/10

I've seen a few films very recently:

Jupiter Ascending - 5/10
A very pretty film with lots of stunning visuals, just shame the story is so very poor. I kinda thought it was so bad it was good, but I'd understand why people would just think it's poor. Satisfies my want for scifi at least.

Trust - 8/10
This is a pretty hard hitting film essentially about how a family deal with a young girl being groomed online and subsequently raped. Despite the subject matter, the film was thoroughly engaging with good character development. Overall, a decent film, that I felt worked on many levels.

Short Term 12 - 10/10
This film caught my eye on netflix and seemed well rated. I can see why. This was excellent in so many ways. The story centres around a children's home in the US and the adults that care for them. This film has deep and complex characters with a story equally well thought out and well written. I loved being taken on the journey to discover how the carers try and understand the world of the troubled teens they help and the personal stories of the carers themselves.

Gone Girl. Really enjoyed it. Rosamund Pike is incredible.

Not too keen on the ending though. 8/10

Half way through, I was comparing it to Zodiac, near the end I was comparing it to Fight Club.

Watched Kingsman last night, really enjoyed it! Went in with little expectation but left with a big grin on my face.
Firth was awesome and Jackson was hilarious.

Yeah, visually stunning and the film is not bad as well. 3D was pretty good in the Chicago scenes.

Story, it's a bit of a mess.

Bees/initially makes out she's royalty
Seems to lurch from kiddie film mode to darker/too violent
Can I get my NI number please?
Tatum phones his performance in, maybe thinking Foxcatcher = artistic merit, this = paycheck
Rehashes a lot of Matrix action scenes- Sentinel attack and spaceship bursting through the clouds scene two that stick out
Disappointed they saved her family - not sure how this was actually done, Tatum just seemed to push them off the side of the scene!
Pacing throughout the film was rushed, apart from maybe the final action scenes.
End was crap:
"So I own Earth then?"
"yeah I wouldn't tell anyone about it though"
"fair enough"
"want to see my new bird wings?"
5/10 seems reasonable
