What film did you watch last night?

Seventh Son - 5/10

I love fantasy fiction and saw the name Julianne Moore on this one so got my hopes up. I should have looked at imdB first as it's pretty much a TV movie. In recent years you see Moore's name and you automatically think Oscars, this movie is more Legend of the seeker TV show than Oscar.

This is just awful, Jeff Bridges's acting is OTT and annoying. The seventh son character was suppose to be this powerful person yet he just spent the whole movie being a wuss.

2/10

A lot of highly rated actors appear in these crap films. It's easy money. If they relied solely on good quality films for work, then they probably wouldn't be working as much as they'd like. ;)

Still, always a good idea to check out opinions first. :)

Julianne Moore has just appeared in Still Alice, which is the real work for her, but doesn't keep her in view the same way that something like The Seventh Son will.

Godzilla (new one) 1/10

Truly a horrific experience, anything that is bad in a film was condensed into this car crash of a disgraceful excuse for a cinematic showing, the summary & perfect ending was people cheering for Godzilla at the end. Go die directors.

Last night I watched 'Horns'.

Dan Radcliff was on form, story was a little odd but over all I enjoyed it a lot.

7/10

Assassin 0/10 and that's being generous.

Horrendous acting, dialogue that I can only assume was written by someone 5 mins after having a major stroke and some of the worse continuity I've ever seen.

OK I like my bikes so when it started with the main character riding through the streets of London on a Triumph Street Triple with the camera on the bike/rider I thought I might enjoy this, but then a long shot of him pulling up and he's on a different model of Triumph (same bike as I have, same colour as well). He even told his colleague to get ride of the Tiger after the first kill but continued to ride the Street for the rest of the film and multiple killings.

Sod it, considering its one of the worse films I've ever seen I've typed far too much, more than it's worth. That lead actress should have her vocal cords pulled out so she can't inflict her **** acting on anyone again.

Watching this again and a year after watching it for the first time I still rate it just as highly!

Captain America 2 Winter Soldier - 8/10 -The 1st film in a long time that I really enjoyed pretty much from start to finish, I didn't even realise how long the film is as it seemed to fly by. As well as the usual comedic twists that you can now expect from every Marvel film there was some surprisingly hard hitting acting (old lady in bed scene for example). The story/script felt well written, the character acting was above par for an action flick, the 3D was just realistic enough that I didn't even notice it for 99% of the time and when I did, it was very well done. Finally the CGI was good enough that it didn't "break the reality" by being obvious even though with 3 Heli-Carriers on screen, it clearly is!

The Importance of Being Earnest (2002) - 7/10 : The modern remake of Oscar Wildes comedy.

Lovely to hear such olde worlde dialog and quite funny in places.

Happy (2011) : 7/10 - Documentary/Film about what is it that makes people happy. Definitely worth a watch

Just watched this, didn't like it.

3/10

God Bless America? I really enjoy that one and would give it 8/10

Calvary - 8/10.

Excellent film, pretty dark drama with a bit of humour thrown in for good measure. Brendan Gleeson as always, is excellent. :)

I found this film one of the most depressing movies I have ever had the misfortune to waste time on. There is no humour in it...it is self indulgent and not at all what I expected...to call this a comedy albeit a dark one is a misnomer..there is nothing funny about this film.

That said, my preconceptions coloured my enjoyment of the film. Had I gone into it expecting to see a dark drama that exposes both the evil and the good in the human spirit then perhaps I would have a different experience. Gleason was singularly excellent as the 'good' priest battling against the 'evil' of the society and the institutionalism around him, a counterpoint to the self importance that seemed to exude from the direction and other actors..Gleason was able to subvert the self-importance of the film's direction to inject much need sensitivity and gravitas to the drama...and that alone redeems the movie. But it was the fact it was wrongly portrayed as a dark comedy felt, to me at least, that the film was a success by accident rather than design.

Obviously it's a subjective opinion but I couldn't disagree more. We felt the film had many comedic moments a la Father Ted (remote Catholic priest with stupid sidekick who was a model of Dougal) and how this was juxtaposed with the intensely dark drama and still managed to come out with a coherent movie was a feat in itself.

We thought the film was great and would recommend it to anyone.
