What film did you watch last night?

Obviously it's a subjective opinion but I couldn't disagree more. We felt the film had many comedic moments a la Father Ted (remote Catholic priest with stupid sidekick who was a model of Dougal) and how this was juxtaposed with the intensely dark drama and still managed to come out with a coherent movie was a feat in itself.

We thought the film was great and would recommend it to anyone.

I love Father Ted, and couldn't see any similarity at all....however it's subjective and I do feel my preconceptions (I thought it would be like a dark version of Father Ted) ruined what is probably a decent film....it's almost as if I spent the whole film waiting for the punchline....and when it came, well you and I know it didn't really, at least not in a way I expected.

Yea, I can understand that :) I guess we have all done similar many times. I suppose with this one we went in to it completely the other way around, just thinking it was a dark drama and was surprised (and entertained) by what we found to be the comedic elements in the film.

The last thing I watched was John Wick, I would most definitely give it a good 8-9/10. Without giving too much away, there are some scenes of fighting and shoot ups which have some serious imagination and creation skills which have went into this to. I was impressed start to finish.

Leviathan.

A refreshingly down to earth film. It did seem to meander between what subject it was trying to tackle though. 7/10.

I couldn't help but imagine if this were an American film, Kolya would've persuaded his hunting pals to gear up and go for revenge against the mayor, with a big dramatic shootout and then the lawyer comes back at the last minute to sacrifice himself for redemption.

Don't worry, the way Hollywood likes to poorly remake good non American films, and have to dumb it down for the average American, I'm sure you'll be able to see that soon enough.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.
The bots in Transformers felt very light-weight.
The bots in Pacific Rim felt and looked huge and heavy.
When you watch Pacific Rim using a good sound system, you get the full benefit.

Agreed on all points. I greatly enjoyed Pacific Rim. It's basically a cool manga done well in movie form. Transformers doesn't even deserve comparison!

Watched Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1... I know it was mostly setting the story up for the final but there wasn't really a whole lot else happened apart from that so it just felt like one big filler.

Yup Agreed Guerrila

Poor story compared to the previous hunger games.

I fell asleep during it and had to watch it the following morning. nearly fell asleep again.

It's the cash cow everyone was fearing

Recommend waiting for 2nd film to go to rental then watch both.

Watched Hero 6 what a great Disney film. Set in Tokyocisco or is it Fanciskyo?

Son loved it I loved it wife had ipad in hand....

All This Mayhem (2014)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2938416/reference

All This Mayhem is a searing account of what happens when raw talent and extreme personalities collide. In this unflinching, never-before-seen account of drugs and the dark side of professional skateboarding, brothers Tas and Ben Pappas' intense bond and charisma take them from the pinnacle of their sport into a spiraling world of self-destruction.

Let me start by saying I'm not really a skateboarding fan however this documentary is excellent, it takes you on the journey of two Aussie brothers whos rise and fall from stardom is as fascinating as it is utterly tragic!

Highly recommended
8.8/10

Saw Interstellar over the weekend, great idea if a little let down by the end. 6/10

I really enjoyed Interstellar, but felt that it would have been a better ending if Cooper died instead of miraculously making it back to our solar system and then being found.

Hollywood need to break away from the predictable stuff sometimes! Not every ending is happy or feel good.

I watched Birdman the other day. Expecting to enjoy it a lot based on the hype and recognition it has got.

I found myself admiring it more than enjoying it. I wonder if I'm not fully 'getting' everything I could be, but aside from a few moments and Ed Norton's performance I'm finding it hard to call it an enjoyable film.

God Bless America 10/10

Repeat viewing of a favourite. Uncompromising.

Watched this last night.....bizarre film imo!!

The first scene with the baby really set the tone  but it seemed to settle down a little after that!

The best thing was that all the way through the film I found myself thinking "yep, the world would be better off if these people were dead!"

An thought provoking 7/10 for me.
