What film did you watch last night?

Terminator Genisys

If this wasn't related to the arguably cult classics that are the first and second Terminator films I'd call it a very cheesy mildly entertaining action sci-fi with next to no chemistry between the two main characters. Emilia Clarke doesn't feel right for the role throughout the whole film here and Schwarzenegger has little screen presence. I think one thing it's predicting well about the future is shameless product placement has a big future in major motion pictures.

Since this is related to two films that I loved as child I'd have to rate it:

Pants/10

The thing that annoyed be the most about it wasn't how bad it was, it was the fact that:

They could have had an entire film based on the new T-1000 that attempted to kill child Sarah and intercept Reese, that alone was more story than T1/2 needed to be awesome. It was enough for a decent film, yet they decided they needed to jump the shark a dozen times to hold the audiences interest :(

There's nothing cult about t2 being a classic. It was the highest grossing film of 1991 and it more than holds up today. It is a classic full stop.

I think people are remembering Terminator 1 and 2 through rose tinted glasses lol, Go watch them again they are both piles of turd now, maybe good at the time but just as bad as Genisys is right now. John Connor in T2 was the most annoying brat ever almost as annoying as Zac from The Strain. Again good memories from a time when you were a boy but just as bad as Genisys.

If you don't rate Cameron's Terminator films any more, then that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion. I've seen them a fair few times over the years and they are still both brilliant films, and I think plenty of others would agree with that. To say that they are just as bad as Genisys though, then I have to question your judgement on what you consider to be a good film.

T1 is great and still is ... Things stated to go down hill with T2. In parts it was great the special effects where brilliant for its time but it's not without its problems

Star Wars Episode IV (Despecialised version) - 7/10

I haven't watched this since I was about 10 and to be honest it's looking pretty ropey these days! I was also surprised by just how little exposition and dialogue there was - and yet it seems like just about every second line has become a meme! It still just about gets by on it's immense charm and confidence though.

Have you suffered a blow to the head?

If you tell stories properly you don't need clunky exposition. All the exposition you need is in the opening crawl, and then it all follows from there and the film explains itself as it goes.

Total Recall (2012) - 3/10

It gets -1 points for being a remake of a much better film. Otherwise it would just be really, really bad.

There was a funny joke in the end credits tho. "An Original Film Production". Someone has a very sarcastic sense of humour. Either that or Hollywood thinks it can remake words now as well!

Seriously, nothing in the film made any sense at all. Including an elevator through the Earth's core to the other side. Or a woman who desperately wants a guy dead, but when her forces have him surrounded and are all ready to kill him, she sends in a negotiator instead.

I don't understand how anyone could look at the script for this film then agree to make it. It's terrible in almost every way. Some of the action sequences are passable, but that's it. Everything else: just awful.

Agreed. It's a bad film in it's own right, let alone compared to the original.

I was amazed when I saw some people say they thought the new film was better. Not many mind, but there were some.

T2 is flat out one of the best movies ever made!

Epic.

And that's not a term I use lightly, everything about t2 is epic, from the opening scene with that dull sound with the traffic on the highway through the credits, and the film.

There will never be a more standout character in film than a 40 something schwarzenegger dressed as the terminator.

Just awesome.

Watched the laser disk version of starwars the other week, tbh if you've ever seen one of those 70's Saturday morning scfi tv shows.. ark2 ect.. think that. Incredible how lowball/budget the film looked in it's original form.

For shame, watched An Ewok Adventure last night (caravan of courage). Holiday special aside, as Umm as it gets.

I agree. T1 is the only film I've seen over 100 times, the next nearest is probably The Thing around 10-20 times, as I just enjoy it so much. I do like T2 but what JC did with a small budget with T1 stands out for me. I actually prefer Aliens to T2.

The Terminator is flat out better than Terminator 2. Terminator 2 is still good though, just not as good as everyone makes it out to be. Same goes for Aliens. Alien > Aliens.

The Terminator is better in a stripped down, bare sort of way, like it just gets on and does exactly what it needs to do. I do think it is harder to watch nowadays because the effects are so much worse and it is just so damn 80s. Terminator 2 isn't nearly as offputting in that regard. Terminator 2 also has far superior action scenes.

I don't think it's really fair to compare Alien and Aliens. One is a horror film, one is an action film. They are both excellent but in different fields.

The Subjects. Melbourne based writer and director Robert H. Mond makes his debut with this reasonably well paced feature film about a group of people who volunteer for a clinical trial.

6/10.
