What film did you watch last night?

Socario 8/10
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Del Toro and Brolin are both immense in it.

Ominous and foreboding sound track as well ratchets up the tension as well.

Crimson Peak.

I'm Del Toro fan but the story in this was just weak. Interesting visuals but still managed to be quite boring due to the limp story and Mia Wasikowska having 0 charisma.

Ex Machina is on Canadian Netflix

Ah brilliant!
I've been spamming flixsearch weekly for this, Big Hero 6 and IT Follows for the last few months as I'm determined to be 100% legal for my streaming these days. (Not for  reasons, more that my excuse for pirate stuff was that it was so much easier, but now netflix+unblockus is so easy to use I dont have that excuse)..
Anyway I digress..
All three of my hitlist have appeared over the past few weeks which is marvlous!
Really enjoyed BH6 t'other week and ditto to It Follows (Canadian Netflix) last night. I particually like that ambiguous time the film was set - crt tvs + old bw films being watched on them, 80s era cars, yet modern phones. All this and the distict lack of parents/grown ups really made it fit with all the great 80's horrors - A Nightmare On Elm Street especially. Oh, and the synth soundtrack too.
I know all of the above has been mentioned many times before but really do think it made the movie special.
Not paticuarly scary though.

Automata

Just a bit weird and the storyline didn't make much sense - swiss cheese throughout. The weird old man who owned the company? The motive of all the "bad guys". The point of the actual story? Watching Banderas awkwardly dance with a robot!? Random kids with guns shooting people up for no reason, and the car chase - who were those guys? Then when Banderas is facing off with strange cockroach robot in what looks to be a life or death situation and his wife walks over and plonks their new born child in his hands like there is no danger whatsoever "look, your daughter!". Ok then.

An interesting film nonetheless, I just didn't see where it was going and was left quite puzzled by the whole affair.

Bone Tomahawk - 6/10

Quite liked it, relatively slow and moderately gruesome. Not a bad watch.

In the Old West, a sheriff (Kurt Russell), his deputy (Richard Jenkins), a gunslinger (Matthew Fox),and a cowboy (Patrick Wilson) embark on a mission to rescue three people from a savage group of cave dwellers.

They really walked on a dry riverbed and never thought for one second it good be mined?:(

Oh dear...

Yeah it's based on fact apparently. I guess they just took a gamble hoping to find a good spot to snipe from. Then it totally fell apart. A lot about it was probably fabricated for the film though I guess.

Ride Along - 6/10

Made me and the girlfriend laugh a few times, pretty entertaining double act. Good Saturday night popcorn movie. Thought I may as well watch it before RA2 comes out :p

Mission Impossible #27 or whatever... Same old ********, but this time with a laughably poor performance from Simon H. Pegg. A terrible, terrible waste of Sean Harris and Simon McBurney.

4/10.

The Prestige

Thank you for the suggestion on this film. It was really enjoyable, a brilliant film. The cast was great, I was well pleased to even see Bowie in there, he suited that part brilliantly :D I have this love hate of Caine, some films I despise him in but he is great in this one, each part was cast very well. I'd watch it again, it's simply very good story telling.

9/10

Black mass... Can't quite put my finger on why I didn't like this, just didn't. Was something to watch for 2hrs but very forgettable. Story was slow in bits, a failed to grab me when it should have.
I think I was expecting a gangster film and instead got a drama about an FBI department. Was kinda like a worse version of the departed.

Really a visually beautiful film. The story is moving and the characters and acting all pulled together nicely. 7/10 from me.

Yakuza Apocalypse
I don't know what I was expecting when watching this, and I still don't know exactly what I watched. I don't even know if I hated or liked it. It was rather entertaining and WTF too, LOL!
