What film did you watch last night?

The Terminator is better in a stripped down, bare sort of way, like it just gets on and does exactly what it needs to do. I do think it is harder to watch nowadays because the effects are so much worse and it is just so damn 80s.

I agree, because the effects & budget were so small the film was carried by the actors and script with a small bit of eye-candy effects thrown in at the end with the endo-skeleton T800.

T2 was the start of the "effects over story" but, again, the acting and characters still had to be good enough to match the new effects and for the most part it succeeded.

Once we got to T3 and above the acting & story quality nose-dived and the effects took up most of the budget & time.

For me the biggest mistake with the franchise (which is understandable) is to put Arnie/T800 as the lead character in the sequels when in T1/T2 it's set-up to be the story of Sarah Conner.

The Phoenix Incident. Things are happening in Phoenix. It appears there has been an incident. What might this signify for our plucky investigators and their faithful shakycam?

Well obviously it's going to be aliens. Because aliens.

6/10.

A Most Violent Year - 7/10.

Great performances all round, great look and feel to the movie. I liked the pace of it (slow!) but my girlfriend fell asleep a couple of times. A good watch.

I agree. T1 is the only film I've seen over 100 times, the next nearest is probably The Thing around 10-20 times, as I just enjoy it so much. I do like T2 but what JC did with a small budget with T1 stands out for me. I actually prefer Aliens to T2.

The Terminator is flat out better than Terminator 2. Terminator 2 is still good though, just not as good as everyone makes it out to be. Same goes for Aliens. Alien > Aliens.

The Terminator is better in a stripped down, bare sort of way, like it just gets on and does exactly what it needs to do. I do think it is harder to watch nowadays because the effects are so much worse and it is just so damn 80s. Terminator 2 isn't nearly as offputting in that regard. Terminator 2 also has far superior action scenes.

I don't think it's really fair to compare Alien and Aliens. One is a horror film, one is an action film. They are both excellent but in different fields.

T1 was dark and raw... T2 was Hollywood Schmaltz with cutting edge special fx :p

T2 needed to be dark but it failed in this regard ...I can't watch it because of that kid ... I just don't care about the young John Connor at all

The thumbs up at the end is turd

Kajaki (2014)

This is a truly harrowing and intense British Afghanistan war film. I was gripped from start to finish. A very no nonsense film which was partially crowd funded. Very well made considering budget and inexperienced Director. Not sure if it was just my mood or something but it's the first time watching a film I felt genuinely sick at the site of the gore. Even considered pausing it to take stock.

9/10

I think it would have been interesting to see where they could take it if they did have a relationship. Though I guess that film has already sort of been done (the Joaquín Phoenix film I forget the name of). Or if the old ones weren't abused and destroyed (been done too actually in Humans TV series). I guess what I'm trying to say is, it felt a bit predictable, but there can only be so many outcomes!

It's good but trained soldiers would not be that inept. That is its problem.

It does a disservice to our troops for the sake of driving narrative
