What film did you watch last night?

Fantastic Mr Fox. Utter briliance, very enjoyable and very funny.

I have 'Up' to watch tonight, and despite the reviews I have a feeling that I won't enjoy it as much. Fantastic Mr Fox was such a charming film in it's makeup, and Up is just another load of CGI (not that that's necessarily a bad thing though).

9/10

Stardust - Was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it.

On the whole I enjoyed Stardust, but too much was crammed in in too short a space of time. I found it very annoying when at several points, just a few lines of dialogue were spoken, and then the story would suddenly arrive at a conclusion that seemed to come along too soon, or to another scene with an equally short span.

I can see why it was short, but IMO could've easily been longer, still worthwhile and better for it.

The People Vs Larry Flynt

I like Woody Harrelson in pretty much anything but I struggled to enjoy watching Courtney Love. I appreciate if you want a female actress to play a brown addict then for Ms Love its probably more of a busmans holiday rather than an actual job but I wasn't keen in her. If the character had been played by Heather Graham then I think it would have been an awesome film (shes not shy when it comes to flesh and is every easy on the eye)

6/10 - would have been a solid 8 with the above change.

Knowing 7/10

Not too bad a film but as good an actor as Nic Cage is, ;), I don't think he's capable of pulling off a Professor. Of course, what he does in his private life is nothing to do with me.

The Uninvited 0/10

What a load of crap. the only good thing about this film is Arielle Kebbel spends most of her screen time in a bikini.

Shutter island!

it isn't scary nor gory! but its well hell of a mind **** really enjoyed it and makes you think a lot!

Shutter Island

I loved it but my friend hated it, but he goes to the cinema to for the spectacle (Action, gore etc) whereas I go for the story.

I kind of guessed the twist but there were parts of the twist I was completely oblivious to. Di Caprio was stunning as per usual.

Moon

Eh? I've read plenty of good things about this film, know people on here have enjoyed it... but honestly, meh. At the start I was thinking, this feels a little like 2001, astronaut and talking robot and all that.

Then by the mid point I was enjoying the twists and turns and then it ended...

Really I just thought it cut out, dah du dah du blah, the end.
Too tired to type anything else but really, I can't say the film was amazing or brilliant.

I really didn't like the film at all to be fair. The story was just transparent and all the twists predictable and anyone who seen the trailer could tell what was going to happen anyway. So what was left in the film to enjoy is the character development and such, but I really couldn't care less about him so watching the whole film was just redundant for me.

Apart from that it's a decent enough film I suppose, the cinematography is there and film has a really cool old school sci fi feel to it. Production value also seems very high despite the film's budget of only $5 million and visuals and CGI seem up to scratch. However, as mention it's very hard for me to rate a film highly with a story that is pretty much non existant (although to be fair this isn't a film that was about that anyway). Unfortunately it also fails for me in the bit that was its emphasis and that's its character(s) about whom I really couldn't care much.

^^ Agree with both of the above.

The plot twist was interesting but once it had happened nobody seemed to know what to do with the rest of the plot. I found the character utterly bland and couldn't care less what happened to him, which pretty much ruined the entire movie for me, since its success hinges on the audience's empathy.

The Crazies

This really is just your average done by the numbers horror film with some plot holes to boot. Actually enjoyed it more than I expected though since I had rock bottom expectations for this taking into account that's it's a remake and viewer response has been poor in this place. It has your everything that you would expect from the standard Hollywood horror of today, the rosy representation of the American dream, loving couple and the hero character with cheesy lines with occasional jumpy bits that weren't overused.

What I don't understand though is why they even used the Crazies name in the first place though. It bears little resemblance to the original film in its storyline so I'm sure they could easily get away with naming it something else and just not forking out for franchise rights in the first place. It also lacks the original message from Romero in his film towards the governments making it even further confusing to me.

Infact it doesn't even make sense from marketing point of view, The Crazies is really a rather old and obscure low production film from the 70s that few people of this generation have seen or ever will and will appreciate even if they do get to watch it by some miracle. So promoting it as a remake makes no sense and I'm sure they are intelligent enough to know that there really aren't that many fans of the original film around to sell it too.

I suppose the clever thing they did was make it look like almost a zombie flick in the trailer, thus jumping on the trend bandwagon lately and fooling a lot of people into watching it because of that but as it stands I'd say it's a weak 6/10.

The Young Victoria – a lovely production, beautiful costumes and wonderful locations. What happened to the rest? Bland characters, bland acting and a few cameos. The film is an empty shell. It’s like looking at a coffee table book, lots of pretty pictures, nothing of any substance. You come to the end and it all fades away into insignificance. It could have been so much more.
