What film did you watch last night?

Gangs of New York

Too long, story was meh, decent fights and set design.

I agree with that. I had high expectations for that movie, but it left me disappointed and to be honest, slightly bored throughout. The plot was very weak, I kept thinking there must be something interesting happening soon but it never did.

dunno why but i watched 2012 on blu ray! and even tho the story is crap and its a cheesy film it looks absolutely amazing and sounds superb!

watching law abiding citizen now on blu ray! loved it first time i watched it!

SPOILERS

Yeah, it was just so boring, kids sees his dad die, he goes away comes back as a man and revenge his death, falls in love, becomes leader of a gang kills baddy, acting was great and everything else just skipped some parts near the end to get to the end.

Its one of Scorsese's flawed masterpieces.

The Man Who Wasn't There. Powerful "coming of age" movie about a young girl who falls in love with a man old enough to be her father. And something about the Roswell Incident.

Shot in black and white due to budget constraints. An odd film, but strangely satisfying. Also, the girl is a bit of alright. :o

Its not a coming of age movie at all and not shot in black and white due to budget contraints

:D

You're right, it's not a coming of age movie and it was shot in colour then transferred to black & white for a neo-noir look. :)

I deliberately write slightly off the wall reviews, partly to avoid giving spoilers and partly for the lulz (just look at what I said about Creep). I've been posting increasingly bizarre reviews for months. Don't take them too seriously. ;)

I thought Billy Bob Thornton was absolutely superb. Although it did strike me as odd that nobody seemed to know he was Billy Bob Thornton!

Over the last few nights I saw:

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Casino
Planet of the Apes

I quite liked Dawn of the Dead but I still prefer it when Zombies are parodied, I may watch the one from the 80s.
Casino struck me as a sort of redundant film, especially cos of Goodfellas.
Planet of the Apes is still awesome, didn't no there was a recent remakem though judging my the imdb score I guess I'll avoid it.

Mysterious Skin. Gritty drama about the sexual abuse of young boys and its impact on their lives. Not easy to watch.

Triangle. An engaging historical docu-drama about the importance of marine safety, containing some excellent footage of a 1930s ocean cruiser. Neville Gorman has a modest cameo as "Man with Lifejacket."

With plenty of replay value, this informative little film will delight viewers of all ages.

:)

SPOILERS

I actually got rather annoyed at this movie, it was like a bad version of groundhog day, ending left me empty and i felt cheated

Oh well, horses for courses. I thought it was excellent and very clever. :)

Tonight's movie: The Proposition. A rather odd film about Irish people and their notorious criminal tendencies. British made, but set in 19th Century Australia.

Elephant

Powerful stuff, a carefully shot memory of a terrible tragedy. Good but the ending all felt rushed.

8.5/10
