What film did you watch last night?

At the end of the day my partner and I both really enjoyed it. I'm not a film critic it's just the quick rating I gave it. Maybe a 7/10 then but we enjoyed it.

I'd need to watch the others again to give a rating as it was years ago I last watched them.

I've just realised when writing this that I meant to rate Terminator Genisys lol my mistake. But I would rate Salvation as the worst followed by 3, not sure on the others at the moment.

Why can't they get the same rating? It's all about how a person rated the movie at the time of watching.

Isn't that all that matters? If you watch a movie and really enjoy it and get a good 2 hours entertainment watching it, shouldn't it get a good rating? And if you don't enjoy it give it a bad rating.

Of course the other problem I have with this is people telling other people how they should rate a movie. You might not agree with my rating of a movie but that doesn't matter, because it's my opinion of a movie, not yours. My rating isn't wrong just because it's different from yours.
I should make it clear that if he preferred Salvation to the others then his opinion is in fact wrong :p;)

e: Bone9, I'm glad you enjoyed the film :D

SAVED! :D

Despite the things that are horribly wrong with it, I have to admit that I quite enjoyed Genisys too.
Think I gave it a 7/10, but that may have been because it was nowhere near as bad I thought it would be.

For example, StevieP up there rates T2 over T1. I think the opposite, but I can't tell him he's wrong, because that's his preference.

There are limits to how far that argument can run, though. I will hear an argument on why T1 is better than T2, even though I think the opposite, and I think you could make a case for it. However, I don't see how you could possibly think anything after T2 was better than anything up to that point.

Yeah, there are limits.
Personally, I don't hold with things like "It's too 80's" or "T2 FX are much better, innit?" as solid arguments.
Sure, these things are down to preference to a fair degree, but they miss the point about what makes each one a great film.

I don't think anyone has bad enough taste to rate anything after T2 as being better :D

If people remember the films have been rated on how much that person enjoyed it rather than it being a true representation on how good a the film is 'technically' it makes a lot more sense.

I'm a huge Bond fan but thought Spectre was a 5/10 compared to rhysduck who rated it as a 10/10 - Best Bond yet!

I tend to read this thread looking for multiple people rating a film highly and take that as a better indication.

Yeah, that's why I can happily give a high rating to trash like The Machine Girl because I enjoyed it.

I know how this may have come across, but I would like to reiterate that I was only curious about his relative scores for the other films in the series, considering the rating for what we thought was Salvation.

I totally get that anything posted in this thread is subjective opinion and a matter of personal taste :) Though sometimes, a score really does have to be brought into question :D

Anyway, on with the reviews :)

Falcon Rising

Michael Jai White plays, as always, Michael Jai White.
For me, that's not usually a problem because I like me some paint by numbers MJW arse kickery.
However, this has to be one of his weakest displays of fight choreography and it's not like anyone came here for the storyline...

4/10

The Town - Ben Affleck goes full Bostonian, although not as much as Jeremy Renner who is almost impossible to understand in some scenes. I liked the film, thought it did well with its actors and their characters. Impressed by Mr Affleck for directing. 4/5

Looper, 7/10.

Found it a pretty interesting film with quite an interesting take on what the future might look like. Not the best film I've ever seen but nowhere near the worst.

Convenience - Two guys in debt to two Russian bouncers decide to rob an all night garage, but it all goes wrong so they end up running the place for a night.

It's like watching an episode of This is England :)

Just seen Steve jobs and thought it was actually quite good.

Its a Danny Boyle film and there are abstract moments in it which are a hallmark of his films but beyond that this had Aaron Sorkin's fingerprints all over it. The quick witted, fast paced dialogue, the cameras following many walks through the corridors of conference centre which was very reminiscent of his west wing days, all of which worked well in this film.

The story with his child was brilliant interwoven and you feel genuine heartbreak at times. The soundtrack was typical Danny Boyle and worked well. I wouldn't buy it on DVD or anything but I'd certainly watch it again. 7/10

Lawless. Controversial screenwriter Nick H. Cave serves up a gritty backwoods drama adapted from Matt Bondurant's novel based on events that didn't happen.

The film is carried by Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, and Gary Oldman. Mia Wasikowska shows up to remind us that she still has only half a boob. Shia 'The Goof' LaBeouf gets repeatedly bashed in the face until he looks like a burst tomato, which pleased me immensely.

7/10.

Don't you mean Ben H Affleck as Evangelion would say :p

:D
