What film did you watch last night?

Spectre - 5/10 - Not good, not bad, just average. It doesn't help that all the minor characters now get 25%+ of the screen time rather than a 5min cameo (as per older Bonds) and that really good actors get very little (Monica Bellucci).

I enjoyed the Train fight and Plane skiing but the two final confrontations (crater and London) were very weak for me.

Have to say I agree with this. I thought it very average. Rubbish henchman, hardly said a word all movie and Bond seems to be completely immune to having his head drilled without any ill effects whatsoever. Disappointing. 5/10 also.

Everest - not a fan of those types of movies but was a good watch. Crazy people climbing big things.

7/10

Trainwreck

Mildly funny and typical Apatow affair with some feminist undertones. I'll give it props for not being as cliche as most of these films but have to say that stand out bits for me were actually the cameos from John Cena and Lebron James. Main issue was actually Amy Schumer for me, I never really heard of her before this and don't know what her comedy is normally like but I really didn't dig her here. Also didn't recognise Tilda Swinton here and think that Brie Larson could've had a bit more humour to her, but she was used as a polar opposite to her "sister" Amy here.

6/10

The Man from UNCLE

Good script, parts well played and it was nicely shot with a good soundtrack. Could've had a slightly better storyline, but it was fine as it was.
Henry Cavill as Napoleon Solo has now overtaken Captain America as my new man crush. Sorry Chris...

7.5/10

Black Mass, 7.5/10. Not great, not bad either, just average. Goodfellas has a lot to answer for. Because of that film, every other gangster film has an awful lot to live up to. black mass and legend may well be decent films in their own right but they will always be held up to that higher standard. Somehow I think gangster films have peaked, they will never get better than that. Those electrifyingly, terrorising performances from pesci and de niro live will always live long in the memory.

7.5 is a pretty high score for an average film. I've always thought of average as being in the middle somewhere, 5/10. I'm guessing 'average' is new age talk for pretty good?

Ant-man, pretty much crap. Lacking any real humour, poor casting, like Iron man 1 and 2, terrible terrible bad guys. Plot was poor, utterly, insanely predictable and full of awful direction. It's full of moments you get in films where guy arrives somewhere but unexplained and for no reason stands outside till some random moment a few minutes later when he chooses to burst in, just poor writing.

Complete and utter waste of a generally good concept.

I'm not a fan of Rudd in a lot of things though he's getting better, he certainly wasn't the reason for this sucking, he played it pretty well, just a dire role.

Black Mass 4/10 - Johnny Depp embarks on the "based on real events " mission to find the worst makeup artist in Hollywood. Succeeds.

Kajaki 7/10 - another based on true story movie - on paper it shouldn't work - 15 little known actors, four camera angles, three meter stretch of a river bed - and yet nail biter till the very end. Living proof that good story is always worth more than big budget.

Leviathan 7/10 - Well visually presented Russian psychological downer made to look and play out like a Scandinavian psychological downer. Subtitles, vodka served by the glass, corrupt oligarchs and everything. Surprisingly good, if a little heavy on the soul.

Trainwreck 2/10 - Some sort of Miss Piggy tabloid celeb - one Amy Schumer (spelling, not heard of her before) is grossly miscasted as Katherine Heigl in this loose-hottie-to-good-girlfriend pointless straight to Tesco 5 movies for £5 bargain bin "comedy".

Steve Jobs - 7.5 / 10 (being much better than average :p)

Not being an apple fan boy, just the opposite in fact, I hadn't given this film a second thought, until I saw the screenplay was by Sorkin

Overall, a riveting performance with plenty of dry humour, a great performance by Fassbender and even though the script wasn't quite on the level of his other works it held me enthralled on a subject matter I had little interest in.

Watched Black Mass last night too, Depp was genuinely scary in parts and great to see him finally do something decent after the last few years of mediocrity. Agree with the scores of 7/10, it was lacking a little something but I liked it a lot and would watch it again.

Does anyone else who saw this watch Ray Donovan, I understand a lot of the parallels in that series now, loads of links littered through S1 of RD which I never picked up on.

My gf couldn't believe I hadn't seen Inglorious ********, and I couldn't believe that she hadn't seen Django Unchained, which let to an impromptu Tarantino night over the weekend.

Django Unchained

Inglorious ********

8/10

I thought Chrisopher Waltz was absolutely fantastic in both of these films, I need to watch Django again but I've seen Inglorious ******** a few times now and he is so good in it.

Which leads me on to Spectre - I would give it between a 6-7/10. I enjoyed it overall, there were some good action scenes (the plane and the train stuck out for me) and the overall story was relatively good however it does feel that there was something missing but I can't quite put my finger on what it was.

I was hoping Christopher Waltz would have more screen time than he did as I was really looking forward to him playing the villian, he did it well but I wanted more of him.

Finally to me (and I could be completely off wit this), it felt like the ending was done the way it was so that it sets up the next film, which I believe will be Craigs last film and will completely wrap up the story. Could be wrong though.

Christmas with the Kranks 10/10 as i love Christmas movies :)

PS you have to watch for the part where the fireman gets whacked on the head with the ladder :D
