What film did you watch last night?

The Forgotten. Zoë Raye and Ismael Peter Casillas III do the best they can with this overwrought mumfest, which squanders its excellent premise on barely digestible glurge and a predictable Hollywood ending that's stupendously implausible even by Hollywood standards.

I enjoyed it right up until the third act, when the scriptwriter yelled 'Sod it!' and junked the entire plot.

5/10.

Animal Factory. Gritty realism in a prison setting. Based on Edward Bunker's screenplay of Edward Bunker's novel of the same name. Featuring Edward Bunker.

Directed by Steve Buscemi. Stars Steve Buscemi as Steve Buscemi, Paul P. Panepinto as Judge Paul P. Panepinto, and William 'Daniel' DeFoe as that guy in the credits. Amorika J. J. M. Amoroso puts in a strong showing despite her relative inexperience.

8/10.

The Equaliser - 6/10.

Simple, enjoyable film, similar in mould to Taken in how the action pans out. I actually liked Denzel Washington's acting for once, probably because he didn't talk all that much.

Black Mass. Johnny H. Depp is virtually unrecognisable in this slow burning crime drama about infamous South Boston crimelord James Joseph 'Whitney' Bulger.

While the story itself is not particularly interesting and most of the characters completely interchangeable, Depp's performance is utterly arresting in every scene. I have never seen such a comprehensive transformation. This will surely be hailed as one of his finest movies.

7/10.

The Summit. Documentary on Netflix about the tragedy on K2 in 2008.

I didn't think much of it tbh. It wasn't really clear what was going on half the time and it was all over the place really.

6/10

Rocky IV - 6.5/10

I don't think this has aged as well as the previous ones. It loses something in trying to get Rocky to stand for Freedom and democracy. Still a very watchable movie though.

Rocky V - 5/10

A real let down after the other 4. It must have been some long flight home from Russia, the Kid aged about 10 years!! The thing that annoys me though, is that they did have the makings of a good movie. The training of the Tommy and the neglect of the family were good storylines, but the fight at the end ruined it all. They should have either went with Tommy leaving Rocky and getting ruined by the promoter while Rocky works things out with his family. Or, sort of the same story, The family leaves Rocky and Tommy goes with Duke leaving Rocky with Nothing. Tommy gets ruined by duke, gets whipped by Union. Apologies to Rocky and helps him get back together with his family. Then they train together for Rocky to fight Union and bring down Duke.

Wash your mouth out melmac, 6.5 for Rocky 4  love this film and the soundtrack, awesome for digging deep in the gym even after all these years :D

Agree with you about Rocky 5, such a waste of what could have been. Like your second idea for the story. Word have liked to have seen Rocky come out of retirement and with Tommy's help win :)
