What film did you watch last night?

The Gift:
Enjoyable to watch, although some what predictable. Did like how it came together at the end. 6/10
Prisoners:
Fantastic film and very intense. 8/10
SouthPaw:
Pretty decent boxing movie, really like Jake as an actor nowadays. could have been a little more gritty for me. 7/10

Harsh Times - 8/10

David Ayer film involving Christian Bale, A tough-minded drama about two friends in South Central Los Angeles and the violence that comes between them.
Seen it a few times but still it's a great movie and I like David Ayer's style of directing, gritty and urban. Christian Bale is an ex soldier with PTSD. Great acting throughout from both the main leads.

Highly recommended.

Rocky 1 and Rocky 2

7/10 for both. Even with some of the worst boxing ever they are still two great movies. Always feel good after watching any of the Rocky movies.

Bridge of spies, 8/10. Similar sort of film and style as thirteen days but a little darker with spoonfuls of the east Berlin misery dolloped here and there. Quite funny on many occasions and the scene of Gary powers getting shot down was excellent. I think the sign of a good director is when you can tell a film is made by them, you can see their style. In the way you can tell a Nolan film, a tarantino film and like here, a Spielberg film.

Steve Jobs 8/10
Wouldn't have been my choice, but I should have trusted in Boyle. Fantastic and touching film.

Yes. It's a shame that it hasn't done well in the cinemas. I think people really need to put all their stupid apple vs everyone else petty squables and dispositions aside and embrace this as just a film. Boyle and Sorkin really did well with this film and its a shame that isn't being recognised.

Mad Max Fury Road - 6/10

Enjoyable silliness in parts but Max was a non-entity, the last half hour was rubbish and the whole thing was way too cartooney. I'd have liked a proper gritty Max.

Surrogates. Notorious 'Bald Man of Hollywood' Bruce H. Willis stars as that guy he always plays, but this time in a different movie.

Based on a graphic novel by Venditti and Weldele, Surrogates is exactly what it sounds like and more.

8/10.

The Machine. Warren H. Micklethwaite was expected to boost this paint-by-numbers sci-fi flick about a machine that goes horribly wrong, but the critics were less than impressed, with The Observer describing his performance as 'about as credible as an arse pancake.'

5/10.

Dead Rising: Watchtower

Ho-Hum zombie movie. Decent enough for the first two acts, final third was terrible though.

As a massive fan of the first game (not played the others), was pleased to see Frank West in it, but unfortunately couldn't relate the screen character to the game character at all. Can't decide if I liked the game-referencing weapons, or found them jarringly unrealistic as tools people would actually use in a zombie apocalypse.

4/10
(lose a mark if you're not a fan of the game/s)

Bone Tomahawk

A Western with a novel twist. Cannibalism. Very gory in parts. Enjoyed it, good film.

Watched this on tv in Canada at the start of this month. Decided to watch it because it had Kurt Russell in it and the way it was written up, it sounded like it might be similar to The Thing but set in the Wild West. :D

I enjoyed it, as you rightly say it was very gory in parts (one scene in particular and I suspect you know which one I mean - my other half had to leave the room during that scene ! ). Good little flick though. 7/10
