What film did you watch last night?

Speaking of marvel, when will we see guardians of the galaxy mix with the avengers?

Also watched age of ultron again earlier and found the first one better.

I'd say age of ultron was a 5/10. There was never any sense of threat and it wasn't as funny as the first one so it just went on and on and on until they inevitably saved the day.

Guardians of the Galaxy was 8/10 for me - some very amusing dialogue and all set in a ridiculous world that despite being almost entirely CGI... looked pretty good?!? Perhaps I'm more willing to suspend my disbelief in a universe that doesn't centre on Earth and has a talking raccoon / tree man. I also liked how humanised some elements of the characters were, like the mix tape.

Kermode's review on GOTG is pretty spot on, I went in knowing nothing about the movie. I actually saw it twice at the cinema.

and I've yet to watch Nightcrawler.

Kermode has a way of putting things that just makes you want to agree with whatever he says, I'm pretty sure I lose my opinion on a film the moment I hear his and just adopt that lol.

There's really no need to be so critical of a film unless you're in a film studies class. Those days are long gone :p

Sicario.
Was quite tense throughout, well acted and Juarez looked pretty insane. Going to watch Cartel Land soon too as a bonus. I'd say 7/10.

Star Wars TFA. 7.5/10. Would have got an 8 but not convinced on the new bad guy. Liked the nods to the old films. The film looked like they had cut down on the cgi compared to ep 1-3 or it has improved dramatically. 3d was good.

Planet Terror

Rodriguez's ridiculously over-the-top B movie is a thing of unalloyed joy. Revel in it's self-conscious stupidity and you'll have a great time.

8/10

Oldboy (US remake)

It was never going to be as good as the original, but Brolin played it very well as always.
I don't know if the twist lacked any real impact because you know exactly what's gonna happen if you've seen the original, or whether it just wasn't done right. Hard to say.

All in all, a decent enough remake - though the one upon which it's based is vastly superior in every way.

Sharlto Copely's character was a bit much IMO.
Elizabeth Olsen was yummy.
Samuel L Jackson did his thing.

Never watched the original, so had no preconceptions. Really enjoyed it, but it is one of those films I will never watch again, as it wont be the same, a second time round.

The original has to be watched. it is one of those films that everyone that loves a thoroughly good film no matter what part of the world it came from should watch.

Then after that watch I Saw The Devil. Makes Hannibal look like a weekend hobbyist. IMO Some of these Korean filmmakers and actors put out films like these that hollywood can and will never be able to match.

Also throwing in Memories of a murder, Confessions of a murder and The Chaser.

The Martian

Great Sci-Fi drama which pits Matt Damon against the odds in what I found reminiscent of a Robinson Crusoe on Mars tale of survival. Stretches the limits of credulity, but switch of your sceptical rationale and you can just enjoy the film for what it is.

That's interesting, as you're coming at it from the opposite direction to those that watched the original first.

I'd be interested to see what you think of the Korean version after seeing the US one and would highly recommend that you do.

Sure, the twist will be ruined for you, but seeing how it goes about things in it's own way will be very entertaining as mrk says:

True Romance.

One of those movies that I've seen recommended before but haven't watched myself. Well, I enjoyed this film a lot. Great to see so many well known faces, e.g. Dennis Hopper 8/10.

Mad Max: Fury Road

In one word... Glorious.

In many others...

There's so much more to it than a totally mental non stop car chase. I liked the characters a lot and even cared a little for them too. Overall the experience was far more satisfying than the last film I saw... The Force Awakens. (I'm a star wars nerd, please don't throw me down the garbage chute :D)
A thoroughly enjoyable 8/10
