What film did you watch last night?

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation

Didn't get on with this at all. In my opinion, it's the worst MI movie by an easy margin. Surprised it got generally well reviewed by critics. There wasn't really any sense of jeopardy I didn't think. They just breezed through it. No good fight scenes or gun battles. Nothing much besides all the tired tricks we saw in previous movies.

5/10

Limitless - Caught it on film4 randomly last night. One of my favorite films of recent years and enjoy Bradley Cooper's role in the film. 8/10.

Bone Tomahawk

This was a very long boring movie that only really picked up towards the end.

Its a Western horror and for me doesn't work at all. I was bored for the most part. Some of the acting is really bad...Apart from Kurt Russell for the most part. The editing dull the dialogue pretty ropey and the gore a bit meh.

6/10 for effort.

I enjoyed it, I agree that it was a little slow to start but overall it kept me entertained, iirc it was a the Director's first movie too.

In the Heart of the Sea 7/10
Some great cinematography and quite gripping up until the ship sinks, but kind of loses its way after that.

Quite a clear message as well about the comparison of the pillage of whales for their oil with the modern hydrocarbon industry.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - 6/10 - After Childhood's End I've become interested in Arthur C Clarke and I really like his idea on the future of mankind and evolution. That being said the film while a great story, I found a struggle to watch.

Ha! What a coincidence. I saw this for the first time on the weekend. In its day it would have been amazing and some of the spaceship scenes would stand up well today, effects wise.

But, that being said, its a struggle to watch. The film often spends 5 minutes just showing a spaceship turning round really slowly...I hit the fast forward button numerous times. If it were released today, it would be wholy categorised as a bore.

If they turned really fast some people would have moaned it wasn't realistic enough :p

Stuff like that done in 3D CGI showing every intricate detail of magnificent ship say performing a docking maneuver might have been a bit more interesting to me but I wanted more story. I think I've just been spoiled by the faster pace of modern movies and I couldn't really enjoy it, plus I do like being spoon-fed sometimes. I'd heard about the last 10 minutes of the film before seeing so I kinda went to Youtube and watched an analysis of the final scenes which made it a bit more enjoyable cause without that I'm not sure I'd have understood what I'd seen.
