What film did you watch last night?

Sherpa 7/10
Interesting documentary, initially following the Sherpas and how the politics and economics have changed leading to the 2013 brawl incident but then moves more into the morality of climbing when a massive avalanche kills 16 sherpas in 2014 when the film crew were on the mountain capturing some very powerful images.

Kingsman. Overall I enjoyed it, but the violence was a bit over the top and gratuitous in a way that didn't quite fit the tone of the rest of it.

Pixels - old gamers try to save the world from alien invasion using old game characters, not as bad as I thought it would be. In fact I liked it a bit, watched it with my kids saying that they were the type of games I used to play. 3/5

Got to be honest though I preferred the original short film which it was based on.

American Ultra - enjoyed it more than I thought I would, a strange mix of violent action and a bit of humour as Jessie Eisenburg's brain-washed slacker agent is reactivated to stop him being terminated by the CIA.

John Wick - action fuelled revenge flick, perfectly pitched for Keanu Reeves strange and relentless, controlled fury. I liked the way that in the mayhem, shot people just dropped, rather than flew around the room. There were some nice touches, like Wick seeming to know every person involved, and how the Russian mob boss craps himself when he find out Wick is on the warpath to revenge the death of his dog. Recommended.

The Hateful Eight - 3/10 - 60 minute non-stop dialog single set stage play padded to unbearable 3 hours by pointlessly repeating N word just to keep the viewer awake. I'll be brutally honest - if Tarantino's name wasn't on the cover, this would be straight to Film 4 production and 90% of people would change the channel after 15 minutes. Shooting it in 70mm was about as necessary as releasing Paris Hilton on 180 gram vinyl.

Joy - 5/10 - High budget but no story Erin Brokovich attempt with a QVC mop. Only pay to see it if found in "5 DVDs for £1" bargain bin otherwise just wait for random Tuesday night on Channel 5.

The Revenant - 8.5/10 - Di Caprio still does everything in his power to get that gold statue, fantastic cast, superb to watch - maybe just a tad too on the nose artsy and Oscar aiming where it didn't need to be.

Just back from watching new star wars film . I loved the originals, being old enough to have watched them in the cinema as a kid. Still in shock at how much they just copied from IV. Huge plot holes, dire fleshing out of the charectors. I'll be kind and give it 5 - 10 because of chewy, C3PO and R2D2

Maggie (2015)

Thought this was going to be good with a nice bit of zombie action, knowing Schwarzenegger would be in it but I was left disappointed. Slow going all the way through.

4/10
