What film did you watch last night?

Sicario. 5 out of ten. Didn't care about any of the characters and was quite slow throughout. People at work said it was great I disagree. I think my standards may have got too high.

I don't rate it either, Del Toro was OK (as always) but found Emily Blunt's lead highly annoying (unlike in her other movies), ultimately just another cartel movie, with predictable, badly paced and average plot full of graphic novel one sided characters (most are a-holes too) no viewer is going to get attached enough to, to care. It's a decent DVD bargain bin find, Tuesday night Film 4 movie, but 5/10 is fair and there was a reason it tanked in box office.

Glad it's not just me then :)

Add me to the list. I didn't think it was much good either. Didn't care about any of the characters. It started out ok but just got tedious to watch.

I did think the cinematography was very good. But ultimately, I found it quite boring.

I can understand everyone has different tastes but for me Sicario was an absolute standout movie last year.

The sound usage and cinematography was sublime in parts, heavily complimented the underlying feel of the movie.

The opening trip into Juarez to collect the prisoner literally had me feeling sickly nervous and I was sat up in my chair at the cinema, fully invested in the movie.

My only criticism is

shoe horning the loving father/corrupt cop into the movie purely to demonstrate del toro's resolve in achieving his revenge/mission as he murders him later on.
I think it's slightly mismarketed as an action movie in some trailers which may lead to disappointment for some.

After watching this, Enemy and Prisoners, i'm so excited to see what Denis Villeneuve can do with Bladerunner 2.

Watched 2 films last night,

Bridge of Spies 8/10. Tom Hanks was excellent in this movie. Based on a true story.

Legend 5/10 Tom Hardys accent felt like it was being played for a comedy at times. Wachable but not great.

Caught Rush on Film 4 last night - first time I've watched it since I went to the cinema to see it with my dad.

Excellent film - loved the tension between Hunt and Lauder - thought Hemsworth played Hunt very well!

I knew very little about their rivalry before seeing it and it really put's Hunt's World Championship achievement into perspective - it took several missed races and a voluntary retirement by Lauder in the final race for Hunt to win the title by the skin of his teeth!

Great Movie. One of my films of the year.

there was a reason it tanked in box office.

Maybe because it was an intelligent movie.

And not transformers or TFA...

Just because a movie doesn't flourish at the box office doesn't make it a bad movie.

If you think it does you clearly have no clue how the industry works.

Crimson Peak

Supposedly scary. Not scary at all. Some nice visuals though. 5/10

Sisters

Generic 'coming of age' adult film. Is it just me, or did these things only start in the past decade or so? In the 80s/90s it was always teenagers in 'coming of age' films, but now we have so many adult/mid-life crisis/etc types. As for the film, funny in places. 6/10

She's Funny Like That

Quirky, artsy, indie, usually things that make me run for the hills, but something about this really tickled me. It also had an air of the old-school caper films. Feel good with decent laughs. 7/10

Aloha

Thought it was going to be a rom-com, not really sure what it was. Maybe 2 pieces of com, and a central theme of rom, but mainly Hawaiian folklore and history. Not as good as it's cast would lead you to believe, 5/10.
I would like to be in a Stone and McAdams sandwich.

The same people are making the same films, obvs.

Heist, its been a while since we've had a good hostage film and this really did deliver 9/10, I might be a bit biased, I do ****** love Heist/hostage films. don't care that it got a low score on imdb.

Count me in as well, thought it was very average at best. Little to no character development, cheesy/cliché script, over-the-top/unrealistic ...etc
The cherry on top was the gunfight where every single shot was accompanied with a muzzle-flash

For me it was a 6/10 at best, VERY over-rated but I guess if you like popcorn action films it would probably suit you great.

Cartel Land (2015)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4126304/reference

A physician in Michoacán, Mexico leads a citizen uprising against the drug cartel that has wreaked havoc on the region for years. Across the U.S. border, a veteran heads a paramilitary group working to prevent Mexico's drug wars from entering U.S. territory.

A superb documentary that will keep you gripped to the end and have you changing your views on people as the film progresses!

Highly recommended
8.8/10

Spotlight (2015)

LRHZWXm.jpg

The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core.

A great film, Ruffalo is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite actors, fantastically gifted. Must see imho

Beasts of No Nation (2015)

uKVIpLz.jpg

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1365050/reference

Follows the journey of a young boy, Agu, who is forced to join a group of soldiers in Nigeria, a West African country. While Agu fears his commander and many of the men around him, his fledgling childhood has been brutally shattered by the war raging through his country, and he is at first torn between conflicting revulsion and fascination Depicts the mechanics of war and does not shy away from explicit, visceral detail, and paints a complex, difficult picture of Agu as a child soldier.

This was my second viewing of this fantastic film, although this is meant to be in Nigeria it was actually filmed in Ghana only a matter of months before I was there doing voluntary work!
Myself and other volunteers would make almost daily visits into Koforidua, had I gone out their a few months earlier I might of bumped into Idris Elba

Highly highly recommended
9/10

watched 2 today they were both very similiar, captain america winter soldier i score a 7 and marvels age of ultron i score a 5. They were both leave your brain at the door decent action flicks with top quality cgi and effects but the story i thought in age of ultron was poor so knocked off a couple of points.

Silver Linings Playbook. It is bewildering that Joy - starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert de Niro and directed by David O. Russell - is so poor compared to this film - starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert de Niro and directed by David O. Russell.

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are great. I love Bradley Cooper's manic speech in particular.

Legend. Not bad, but not gritty enough for me and Hardy just plays Ronnie way OTT. Like a caricature. The voice is hilarious though. Like a cross between Alan Partridge and Catherine Tates nana. 6/10 for me.

+1

He also reminded me of Alan Partridge! :D :D

The lady that played his wife was so beautiful.

Creed - 3/10 Just didn't connect at all, sure the Rocky series have always been corny but they had character, this struck me (non intentional pun) as a boxing movie by the numbers.

Legend - 5/10 Thought TH did a good job with the material, wasn't really any story as such, limped along until the end.

Hateful 8 - 8/10 I loved it, I really didn't mind the initial slow pacing as I enjoyed watching Kurt Russell, could have done without Tim Roth who was terrible.

Spectre - 3/10 As I lovingly call it Septic, what a **** Bond movie, how can we go from the brilliance of Casino Royale to this is beyond me.
