What film did you watch last night?

Trainspotting. Not seen it in ages. It's brilliant, so well done. Begbie is terrifying, definitely one of the scariest film characters ever. Kelly MacDonald is gorgeous, and her voice... I'd listen to her reading the phone book.

Mr. Church

Stars Eddie Murphy and Natascha McElhone (better known as Karen in Californication).

I fear this movie will go under the radar of many, especially under the Blockbuster size cape of A Monster Calls, but it's genuinely a moving story that doesn't rely on special effects for storytelling, just pure character drama.

It is funny, it is sad and it also makes you care about the characters. I think this is a great return to the screen for Eddie Murphy, something which cannot be said for other actors who have seemingly passed their use by date :/

Sing Street

I'm sorry, I just can't get past the period setting, accent and cliche bullying by a 1 dimensional supporting cast.

Everyone says is so great but I really dislike the lead and hated how he wants to rebel and not conform but when confronted he just falls over. Make up your mind. I got frustrated so much with the character (and the actor) and don't buy the girl falling for him and had to turn it off.

May be I'll give it another go some other time.

The Other Woman

Eh, it was ok, chuckled a few times, and the combination of Diaz, Mann and Upton was certainly easy on the eyes.

6/10

Frequency

Friend recommended the tv series, and gf was surprised that I had never seen the film, so we watched it last night. I really enjoyed it, pretty tense at times, and you have to just forgive/ignore the time paradoxical things.

7/10

I liked it, but not as much as everyone else seems to have.

It got a 6/10 from me

Arrival.

Meh.

U wot?!

Son of Saul, 8/10, bleak, horrific.

But fantastic!

Ben-Hur (the remake)

It is truly one of the worst films I've ever had the misfortune to endure (we were visiting the weekend, so no choice).

0.5/10 (0.5 for some lovely horses)

It is a great film.

The whole reason for him "falling over" is that he hasn't found his inner strength, voice and identity yet.

She was a lost soul herself searching for something...They ware more friends than lovers and this comes across in the performances...

We had a bit of a binge yesterday.

Hannibal (2001)
Following on from watching The Silence last week. It was never a great sequel and red dragon was better. Never the less, a bit gritty in places and Hopkins is always fun to watch. Shame about the Hollywood gore show, it detracts from the psychological thrill ride it is should have been (like the silence does spectacularly well)
5/10

I've always preferred manhunter from the hannibal film collection

Jason Bourne

Plus points: it's a Jason Bourne movie starring Matt Damon directed by Paul Greengrass

Ray -first step to recovery is to admit you have a addiction. :D Go to a AA meeting to meet others who overdosed on La LA Land.
I saw La La Land for the second time last night. Just as enjoyable as the first time. I don't think I truly appreciated Emma Stone's performance the first time around, she's incredible. That audition scene where she gets interrupted, near the beginning. Wowser. The argument over dinner near the end. It was the first time the girlfriend saw it, she loved it.

Can't stop humming "Another day of sun"; I might have finally something to get me moving on a Monday morning!

The only good bit of the movie was the Vegas Chase sequence.

Green Grass knows his onions in this area. :p

Split

Really wasn't sure what to make of this, it flopped from being great to borderline silly also instantaneously. The climax was exciting and intriguing but the film was quite long and felt like it perhaps could have ended a little sooner. The very end brought things together but the less said about that the better - it was a nice surprise.

6.5/10

Trainspotting was on Channel 4 (IIRC), classic, 9/10.

Seen it many times but not for a while, still awesome.

Begbie absolutely makes it though, hope he is similar in T2!
