What film did you watch last night?

xXx - Return of Xander Cage - it was entertaining but definitely switch off the brain pop corn flick. Realy really cheesy at times. Thought Donnie Yen was a better character than Xander himself :p. Overall 6/10 seems a fair rating.

The Girl with all the gift

Meh, cross between the Last of Us and your regular zombie. I get the whole premises and irony but all I can think of is how stupid Atherton's character is, but then she deserved it as it is all her own doing.

5/10

Catchup session this week:

The Girl On The Train 7/10 - Decent thriller. Emily Blunt is top notch as always. Her next ones are the Animal Crackers movie (this really is a thing), My Little Pony: The Movie, Gnomeo & Juliet (Sherlock Gnomes) and Mary Poppins Returns. I reckon the last one won't be as godawful as it sounds based on her ruling Sicario and Edge of Tomorrow.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back 3/10 - A.K.A. Jack Reacher: Never Get A Family. Two really bad TV movies shoehorned into one cliche-fest. Good guy second-in-command can only take down the baddies lower tiers then get injured. Main baddie and hero meet up, "Only if you let her go!". Tosh.

Swiss Army Man 10/10 - For me, it's a Trainspotting/Pulp Fiction/Usual Suspects-type deal. Something that comes along every few years and is really nothing like anything else around it. There's parts in the middle of that film where it's like a Pixar film come to life. It really is odd, but if you give it a go, stick with it. It is a bloody amazing film.

Was actually being serious, would choose Split over the other two any day of the week.

Both the other choices are universally panned.

That's what I went to in the end :)

Err......was rather good, not La La Land good but I enjoyed it and it hit all the right notes and a bit more. It got seriously weird and uncomfortable in a couple of suggested scenes.

So...

Split

A good solid 7.5/10

Oh.....the VERY last scene...didn't see that cameo coming!

Watched this last night and would give it the same rating. 5/10

Although it didn't specifically say where the film was set. I did like how they used Pripyat in the landscape scenes.

Pripyat Hotel with a big Mercedes badge on the roof!

Anthropoid... 6/10.

A bit slow for the first hour, more of a low budget drama TBH. Even when the action started there wasn't much pace to it. And of course based on real events you knew how it was going to end for the protagonists.

Valkyrie was much better, or The Pianist - even going back away Operation Crossbow actually conveyed the sense of peril fighting the Nazi peril from within.

Is it typical M Night Shamalamamamamadingdong with a massive...WTF twist at the end?

I finally got round to watching Suicide Squad. I believe it didn't get very good reviews, but a couple of friends had said they enjoyed it, so what the hell.

Wow, what a bad movie! If it hadn't been for Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn has to be one of the sexiest movie characters ever) then I'd probably be a little annoyed I wasted 2+ hours (I watched the extended version)

Maybe I'm being a little harsh. Turn your brain off and enjoy, I guess I could give it 4½/10.

I don't understand how anyone could enjoy it.

As you say, other than Harley it's just a terrible film from start to end. .

Last night we watched Inferno with Tom Hanks.

Called the entire plot in the first 10 minutes, wife fell asleep after 30 mins, watched to the end to confirm I was right, and I was.

Rubbish film trying to be clever and failing at ever single thing.

2/10

I don't mind his WTF endings, the earlier ones were well crafted, then it kind of became expected of his movies.

I like McAvoy quite a bit as well, will watch most films he's in.

I don't expect this movie to be a massive hit in the theatres but I do think it will be seen by quite a lot of people once it is on Netflix/Prime videos.

It's a good movie, some people would say it is an excellent movie.

There is a massive tie in to his earlier film which makes you think whoa...but that's if you are really into Unbreakable.

Split (2017) - 7/10

A creepy and disturbing horror movie with dark sub-plots and an interesting study into multiple personality disorder, but it doesn’t quite manage to build up the tension effectively.

McAvoy is truly great as the lead role in his variety of guises, but I wish we had seen a greater range of personalities.

Strong acting, but the plot is nothing special and it lacks a memorable or shocking finale.

I agree, for all the intention of a kidnapping movie, it lacks that claustrophobic element for a start and I never one minute felt the lead was in any real danger due to her sense of calm from her previous experiences, which makes sense but also takes the edge off the situation somewhat.

Sing

By the numbers with a few laughs. Unsurprisingly not a peep from the kids in the audience from the scenes that made us laugh the most. ;)

6/10

Just came back from the new underworld flick. I expected dross of the 'Resident Evil sequels' calibre but was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it! The audience was collectively lolling at some of the most ridiculous bits and everyone was having fun. Was I entertained? A resounding yes! Truly hilarious in places and I'd like to think intentionally so.

You may have just convinced me to go watch it later.
