What film did you watch last night?

Deepwater Horizon - What a disaster. But far from the worst movie I've seen this year.

Sounded good. Dolby Atmos (but it did hang in a couple of places)

Loved the way they let you know who the big bad men were, with their oh so prevalent BP logos on their chests.

Rented BluRay on Lovefilm (got another free 30 days free trail to go at to catch up on a few)

In all honesty in a world where, Bridge on the river kwai, the deer hunter, Kelly's hero's, Full metal jacket, das boot, Schindler's List, Downfall, MASH, Glory and heck even the immitation game, platoon , three kings, the hurt locker and syriana exist. I really don't find it difficult to dismiss people talking about Saving private Ryan (as a whole piece). As for born on the forth of July, have you ever watched any war movies beyond the 3 you are quoting?

Saw almost all the ones you listed, and Three Kings? I see that more like a comedy in parts!

When I say war movie, I don't really count the imitation game, that's practically a Turing biopic than anything else.

No mention of Apocalypse Now, The Longest Day, Where Eagles Dare, The Great Escape, Ice Cold in Alex, Cross of Iron, The Guns of Navarone or Tora! Tora Tora!? Hang your head in shame.

The Warriors , classic 70's movie 8/10 , this is crying out for a remake.

No no no no no no no!!! :o

Saying that, I did read last year that it was making the jump to TV which might be interesting.
Tony Scott was linked to a remake but never happened.

Arrival

Eh?

Decent performance from Amy Adams, Decent soundtrack,

Crap movie

4/10

I really don't get why people are thinking this is a sci-fi masterpiece lol

It's a story about a mother and daughter first, sci-fi second. It's even how the director sold the movie to Amy Adams.

Deepwater Horizon, as good a depiction as it was, was a bit of an eye opener with how big a cluster of fups led up to it (|I worked in the offshore drilling industry for 3 years in the early eighties and know a bit about BOP's and drilling deep wells)

Turns out what happened afterwards was even more eye watering though.

Google - ProPublica - Spillionaires.

I do, I do but, what no mention of The Dam Busters, Von Ryan's Express, Run Silent Run Deep? Join me in the head hanging.

Without doubt a number on your list I'd place above the Cheese of the later stages of saving private ryan and Bored on the 4th.

I've probably forgotten (that I even watched) better war films than Born on the forth of July. :)

Missing out the Great escape and Ice cold in Alex, my old man would spin in his grave, if he was buried.

Good stuff, odd you didn't mention that Kelly's hero's/MASH are pretty much comedy Films too, not sure why it matters.

When I say war movie, I don't really count the imitation game, that's practically a Turing biopic than anything else.

Arguably the imitation game is more than a straight forward war movie (if such a thing exists), I'd accept it spans the WWII period and beyond, still I'll chuck it in here. Though set post war I could arguably throw in The Third Man too because much of the narrative is driven by exploring the effects of war.

As ably pointed out by Malevolence, we are scratching the surface, there are 2 Henry the V movies that should probably be on the list.

And like i said, favourite, and objectively speaking, there is not even a Best.

It's all subjective and my favourites are those 3, I am not listing all the war films that i've seen....like if I ask you your 3 favourite war movies, how do I like it if I rant off the other 20 that you've listed?

What good that does do?

In fairness I didnt even mention you until after you made critical points about my opinion.
