What film did you watch last night?

Their finest (hour?) 8/10

Possible different title in Sweden.

BBC film about propaganda making team in early ww2.
They make a film about rescuing troops at dunkirk with the aim of coaxing the US to join the struggle...
Big mix of emotions here, great cast, well acted but i felt it could have ended 30 mins earlier. There's 3 clear ways it can end i thought. I wasn't super happy with the one they took.

La La Land 8.5/10 - another one I've been itching to see for a while.

Loved it! There is so much to like about this movie. I went into it knowing it was a musical, and that's about it. I really enjoyed most of it!

The bad...My only main criticism is that after such a good start and the pace going well, the movie seemed to slow down a lot about 1 hour into it. Whilst it wasn't bad during the slow down at the same time i found myself struggling to focus on it and it dragging a bit. Especially after such a good start. Otherwise...

Movie started off great. The pace was good and seeing the story from different perspectives was excellent. the summary towards the end showing a "what if" scenario was a great touch and just a right amount of time to show that they could not have both stayed together and followed their dreams, there had to be sacrifice somewhere.

The colour! Oh the colour! I loved the constant use of bright colours everywhere. For example if she was in a yellow dress her handbag would be bright red. The cafe was green...The colour was constant, so beautiful to watch and soak in.

The cinematography was awesome. Really long individual scenes with minimal to no cutting showing constant good acting from the cast throughout. Also the scenes where the camera pulled back to show a large area with those two in the middle were fantastic.

The music was fun and catchy. Made me feel happy watching it. Also the sly comedy in the movie was brilliant.

Both ES and RG were excellent.

Final note...I was very jealous of RG's suits :P

Apart from that, wasn't all that tbh :p

Fate of the Furious - 4/10
Set pieces were enjoyable enough.
Rock and Statham work really well together.
What was Ciphers end game
Was expecting Dom to say 'Welcome to the Xander zone' at any moment since both characters seem interchangeable.
They tried to shoehorn in a new Brian, nah.
The 'family' now seem to have spec ops training?
Too long.

Star Wars: Rogue One 9/10
It was brilliant. Enjoyed it.

Resident Evil: Final Chapter 6/10

It was good. Better then the previous ones. Didn't expect the twist.

Rogue One.... 8/10

Not much to add that has not already been said. Very enjoyable film, however the shonky Peter Cushing CG was very distracting.
Should have got the guys who did the amazing young Michael Douglas in Ant-Man to do it :)

Hackers

Very fun and entertaining. I haven't seen it in about 20 years but its uniqueness gives it a timeless quality. It's like looking through a window into an alternate dimension. The soundtrack is flawless too.

8/10

Back to the great era of the early 1960s for Fail Safe last night .
You think Trump is carazeeee, Henry Fonda as US Pres. drops a nuke on New York.

Tonight, seats in all areas, will be showing The Manchurian Candidate.
I'm still undecided if Sinatra can actually act, Angela Lansbury certainly can,
she's bloody great, and a bit sexy. She was only a couple of years older
than Laurence Harvey who played her [ a bit too close ] son.

The Great Wall

Bland and poorly executed story. could have been so much better, assume Damon enjoyed that fat paycheck.

2/5

The Nice Guys

Turned it off halfway through. Meandering plot and called-in performances from the leads.

1/5

The nice guys is one of the better movies of last year, objectively, not just subjective. To place the Great Wall with a higher score is just wrong.

And you never finished it!

I'd be interested how you justify saying that it's an objective, rather than subjective judgement?

I did watch it all the way through, at the cinema, and was rather disappointed for similar reasons.

It has a coherent story, it is better acted, it has no dodgy CGI, it is smart, it has better editing and pacing.

You might enjoy the Great Wall better but it
doesn't make it a better movie and I find it weird that people score a film without even finishing it.

I finished it and thought it was very average. Not one of the better movies of last year, in my opinion.

Coherence 6/10

Meh watchable i guess. But kinda boring. Basically its a dinner party of snobby characters... no character is likeable and the plot is surprisingly boring (given the medium we are talking here...ie multiple alternate realities).

SPLIT 8/10

Excellent performance from James McAvoy. Very tense chiller. Good performances from everyone except the girls are a tad annoying. Twist at the end isnt not so much a twist as a "cherry on top" sweetener.
Highly recommended.

I'm not comparing it to Great Wall (which I've never seen), I'm judging it in itself. I thought there was no chemistry between the two leads, and the characters they portrayed were rather dull and hard to like. And most of the humour fell a little flat.

I still don't understand how anything you've said means your opinion counts as objective rather than subjective. You're reviewing a film, how can it be anything other than subjective?

Objectively The Great Wall has dodgy CGI, you agree?

Objectively, the story in the Great Wall is absurd, you can agree with that right?

There are things that can be objective. Your enjoyment of a movie is subjective and I won't say you didn't enjoy the Great Wall more but The Nice Guys is a better movie of the 2. On many technical levels from script, dialogue, acting, pacing, editing.

Plus to score it without finishing it, I find that part most troubling. If I score Rogue one half way through it would be 4/10. It's the ending that makes that movie

Everybody dies doesn't work if you don't care for the characters running at 4/10 throughout. :p
