What film did you watch last night?

Logan 9/10 easily surpassed expectation, loved the soundtrack and emotional depth beyond virtually anything in the genre.

Perhaps fatigue and earlier episodes effects peoples judgement, without which it could be a classic IMHO.

I've never really loved the xmen sites even though I found them watchable. But I saw Logan at the cinema and loved it.

I think people are clouded as it was a good piece of cinema, rather than the brilliant amazing film they think they watched.
Various ridiculous elements were in place.
Super powered kids, being chased by armed mercs, mercs decided to try to capture the kids and grab them to bring them back, yet not a tazer in sight.
It takes a death before the kids remember they have superpowers.
Then they finally start to use them.

What is so safe about crossing through a forest into Canada?
Mercs with guns might not be looking at their maps. They might even consider shooting their guns.
There are issues, the overall idea and arc within the plot is a good one.
The concept is good, Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman are good, the kid ain't bad, everyone else is a bit meh.

Gravity

First time I've seen it. The silent disaster scenes I found particularly creepy for some reason.

Not a great deal to the story but then I don't think it needed it. Nice and tense.

8/10

Inception: Made more sense the second time around, and shows why Christopher Nolan is so highly rated. He just tells good stories, and isn't afraid to make the audience work and think. Great cast, mindbending story and action. A proper grown up action/sci-fi movie made to a high quality.

Nearly all of these relate to the final scene, nit picking doesn't always preclude a film from being amazing either.

LOTR - Why don't they just use the giant birds to Fly to mount doom?
Why don't AI machines of the future think to simulate a giant field of grass and use the energy from cow's, a Mootrix if you will?
Don't go back for the cat, virtually every horror movie ever including Alien.

I'm not saying the film is perfect, I am saying in the context of little miss sunshine but much more stabby, with a genuine attempt at considering mortality and parental responsibility, the comments aren't that relevant.

On the acting frankly Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman and the Kid are virtually the entire film, though I didn't have a problem with the supporting cast beyond Steven Merchant's Caliban, which didn't really work that well for me.

Actually yes, i agree, it was the final act i had the most issues with, there were similar points earlier, but that final, act left me upset they had messed up an ending.
It wouldn't have taken much to change the configuaration to a less idiotic running around session.
I think they could have portrayed his death, and sacrifice in a better way.

I liked the film, i rated it well, but it isnt amasterpiece in any fashion.

Ghost in a shell

Not sure what to think about this one. I usually like sci fi films but I just couldn't get into this.
probably give it 4/10 and only because its got scarlett johansson. take her out and it'll drop to a 3/10

She's the reason it gets a 3. Its a good representation of a difficult to copy media but she is just terrible. Her acting stinks and she's only good as in a sidekick role in a cheesy film series likes Marvel.

true, they should have learnt from Lucy to be fair.

Hidden Figures 7/10

Having just finished reading The Right Stuff - a great book about the Mercury 7 (first Americans in space) I realised this was on offer on Prime. Very good watch, a sort of b-side to the main space race story - about the black women employed at NASA, overcoming all the prejudices. Always amazes me how racist America was only 50 odd years ago. Anyway, fun film, worth a watch.

Lots of America remain just as racist, they don't even realise it.
Either way, that was a great film, although I thought the character played by Sheldon Cooper wasn't overly racist, just utterly misogynistic.
Both apply.

Oh I know how terrible America is. I lived in Connecticut for 3yrs when I was 7-9yrs old. One of our best family friends was a black woman married to a white guy. When we went back to visit when I was in my twenties she opened up a bit about getting pulled over for no reason, getting harassed by the police occasionally. Nothing major but it still happened because she was a black woman living in a suburban white area. That was in the nineties -- and in a lovely liberal part of the US :(
