What film did you watch last night?

Two for me last night.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge - also known as Dead Men Tell No Tales, you know what you're going to get and I thought this one was slightly better than the last. Johnny Depp doesn't seem to age does he? 3/5

The Accountant - Ben Affleck enjoys himself as a violent accountant with Aspergers when things get complicated when he is hired to see if there are discrepancies in the accounts of a robotics company. Good supporting cast too. 4/5

We went to the Local Flea Pit last night and watched The Darkest Hour what a great performance from Gary Oldman and the make-up was superb. Hopefully he should win the Oscar shortly and if he does he has earned it. The performance was ruined by people with their ton of popcorn and endless carton of gassy drinks it was rustle, rustle and more rustling and of course the slurping, it was coming from all sides and of course not forgetting the dozen young people who arrived late but also carrying on throughout. We have been going to the cinema for a long time and this was one of the worst nights we have ever had and a few times we were going to walk out but we stayed and as I said what a brilliant film and cannot wait to get the BD or 4k disc and see it in the quiet of my home. This may have actually stopped us from going in the future.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018) - 6/10

An exciting and enjoyable if unambitious end to the series.

Plenty of action and some suspense during the impressive set pieces, but the story pans out just as you would expect right down to the ending.

Good acting and an attempt at emotional death scenes, but nothing truly remarkable.

That’s how I see it as well (more of a reboot), I enjoyed it as a film in it’s own right but it goes off at a tangent in terms of style and consistency of world it’s set in (bit like Last Jedi in that regards).

Which is fine if your character starts out light and funny (Deadpool, GotG etc) but the very abrupt change of tone between Thor 2-3, especially if watched back to back, makes Thor 3 feel worse than if it had been a stand alone movie (or the 1st Thor). However every studio wants soft and fluffy films now for their big films so darker edgy films will have to wait a decade or so until everyone is sick of all the cutsie crap!

The Red Turtle

One of the best films I've seen in a long time. As a viewing experience, it's completely unadulterated and pure in it's intent. It has a story to tell, it tells it perfectly and leaves you contemplating it's many themes with a smile on your face and a tear in your eye. Impeccably beautiful from start to finish.

At least Thor highlights the people with no sense of humour.

Thor 1 & 2 are crap.

Watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and it was quite the enjoyable little romp.

I really liked Woody Harrelson's character.

Just checked that out on IMDB, thanks...will add to my list of must watch :)

The Darkest Hour - Incredible performance from Oldman, very powerful film. Well worth the trip to the cinema.

Slightly off topic, @Jock7 do you have an Everyman cinema or similar nearby? Grown up cinema with nice drinks and snacks, sofa and armchair seating. IMO, well worth paying slightly more not to deal with the riff-raff :P

Problem with Everyman is you get the hipster film critics and their mates who insist on sitting there discussing the film all the way through it.
