What film did you watch last night?

Winchester (2018) - 3/10

A ghost story that starts off with a few scary moments, but never excels or moves into true horror.

After the truths are revealed, it loses all atmosphere and by the end of the film, becomes a bit silly with lots of destruction and fight scenes that are completely out of character with the rest of the film.

The premise and story is interesting and the acting is good, but more should have been done with the architecture of the house rather than recycling the same old horror clichés.

The Last Jedi

Not sure on rating. Between 7.8 and 8.5 so pretty darn good!!

Such a huge relief. Also feel multiple rewatching may increase the score. Like a lot of the little one liners in this as well. Sure a lot of this was comically crappy (the wtf iron?) but the core *star wars* was there Imo. More later. You done good Skywalker.

Well it was the subtleties and the message(s) that saved it for me.....to put it as succinct as possible...the force itself not dark or light saved it. Ton of content to unpack. But I need to watch it a few more times :)

I actually felt...this film was quite literally A New Hope both in the story and for us viewers. :)

It's possible that i might even rate this in the 9s depending on how the rewatching goes.....you don't fight to kill the enemy you fight to save the ones you love..

Edit maybe not that high I'm probably a bit giddy so not thinking straight haha

Den of Thieves (2018) - 4/10

A standard heist movie with a lot of male posturing and not much else.

The plot is a slow burner, which ends as a bit of an anticlimax, but the twist was a nice touch.

The characters are stereotypical but well-acted, and although the 2 action scenes and actual heist are well put together, it feels slow with not much action, suspense or thrills for the majority of the film.

Jigsaw 6.5/10. Some really bad acting from some characters and some really bad decision making "let's not tell the cops, let's hunt Jigsaw ourselves". Some twists and turns, not overly gory, not a patch on the original, but definitely worth a watch if you're into the Saw franchise.

It Follows - crap.

Lots of positive reviews, but was really disappointed. Interesting concept but just fizzled - sexually transmitted ghosts; wtf?

I actually thought that one was ok. Not amazing, but not awful. Enjoyed it equally as much as Get Out even though they're entirely dissimilar.
