What film did you watch last night?

Spider-man Home coming - 6.5/10
Finally watched it this is the first Spider-man movie I've seen since Spider-man 3, which put me off from watching any new Spider-man movies but this has finally got the bad taste out of my mouth.
Tom Holland was a good choice as peter, Michael Keaton was great I wanted to see more of him and the actor playing Ned was also good, the rest did not stand out but i'm assuming it due to the little screen time they had but we will see in the next movie. overall no one was bad.

I was expecting it to be better with all the reviews but still good.

Spiderman 2 still holds 1st place.

Sling Blade. Written by Billy Joe Thornton. Directed by Billy Joe Thornton. Screenplay by Billy Joe Thornton. Stars Billy Joe Thornton as Sling Blade.

Fine example of Southern Gothic.

I rate Sling Blade at 26.64 on the Haglee Scale, which works out as a brooding 8/10 on IMDB.

That's actually more funny because you got Billy Bob Thornton's name wrong.

I, Tonya.

Just got back from an Odeon Screen Unseen and this was shown. I have absolutely no interest in ice skating and this film has not changed my mind on that but the ice skating is secondary to the story, it’s just the reason all that happened, happened. I, Tonya is an excellent film with great performances and it’s pretty damn funny in places. How true it all is doesn’t concern me, all I want is a well told story in an enjoyable package no matter the subject matter and that’s what I got. Recommended.

I just saw I, Tonya too.

Very impressed with Robbie's performance and also Alison Janney was excellent as the mum, and that idiot "bodyguard"……dumb idiot…….

Anyway, great pacing, editing and pitched and a satirical tone that was perfect between funny, dark, sad and tragic. Enjoyed it above Three Billboards, Get Out, Dunkirk, The Post, Darkest Hour and The Shape of Water. Even though this isn't nominated.

The Martian (extended cut), 8 maybe 8.5

I watched it a while back but decided to watch it again this time with the surround and it's surprising how the surround makes a difference to an already good film (the sound mix was excellent), and rather unusually for me I sat and watched it without any distractions except for a tea break :)
Visually and audibly it's extremely well done, and the story holds up well on second viewing.

The Cloverfield Paradox 7/10

Just dropped on Netflix, JJ Abrams Producer. Advertised with 30sec promo at Superbowl then instantly released worldwide.

Not bad sci-fi space station romp. Doesn't break any new ground but paced well enough if a little predictable. Good visuals though.

Shape of water 7/10

Not really my cup of tea. I'm not really sure who's cup of tea either, some pretty weird tea but that's to be expected I guess.

Looks amazing, world construction is spotless.
Great acting throughout, Octavia playing her usual character/self. Story is fairly "normal."

I've been harsh it's more of an 8/10.
I dunno why it got all the Oscar noms, but that's all part of the circle jerk.

Thor Ragnarok

I really enjoyed it. Yes, there was way more comedy, more akin to GotG than the previous Thors, however unlike GotG2, most of the comedy landed for me.

GotG2 felt forced and lame, whereas this had me proper lolling at times.

As a follower of comics, I understand that there are many arcs they just cannot do justice in a film format (I expected so much from Civil War due to the comics), so now I actually appreciate the nods even if they are not canon.

Sakaar, gladiatorial combat, Korg and Miek all nice touches from the Planet Hulk story (even though it would have been cool to have no-name Brood, or indeed even Skaar).

After Ragnarok in the comics, Asgard ends up being rebuilt in Oklahoma, so refugee Asgardians also nodded to the comics.

Sutur and Hela were done well, but Skurge was kinda wasted.

Good fun yo, 7/10

Some IMDB comments are weird like suggesting tenuous links to the Cloverfield film series. However this basically explains some very fundamental aspects of the first film so I'm not sure what they were watching :)

Decent enough Sci Fi film that could have been a standalone like Life and still entertain.

Three Billboards

Some amazing acting, and generally an enjoyable film, despite the sad storyline.

4/5

Thor Ragnarok

Dear god what a waste of 2 hours or so that was. And I was even on a plane where I had time to kill! I really dont get why people like these movies. All action, no substance, invincible characters you dont care about. Pointless.

1/5
